I just remembered I gotta install an immobiliser to switch to WA rego. Best do this first before I go playing motor swapsies while still on QLD plates.


Can anyone show me their setups? Mine is a 90 Sierra, never had an immobiliser before, dunno what the options are

i've recently swapped to a transponder style thing - basically a dongle on my keyring that kills the immob when it gets near it. Theres also a switch in the door that alerts the immob that im about to come near and activates the antenna.

How do you start your car if you drop the keys(with dongle attached) in some water?

its a passive waterproof device, I had one on my sierra and left one in some water for a while to make sure they were ok

I have dropped mine into water a fair few times with no problems. The are quite well sealed and are definatley worth the of couple extra $$

i have washed my keys and the dongle still works...
you get a few with that kit too....
and you can override the system by turning the ignition on and off after the correct number of flashes on the little L.E.D.

biggest bonus is your car can not be stolen unless they somehow get hold of your keys...

the type alien described is the best. you don't even have to do anything! no batteries to worry about too.

Not trying to pinch ur thread but does anyone know how much it costs to have something like this installed? Thinkn bout puttin one in the 83 1l I have.

So what part is it actually immobilising?

Is a kill switch the same as an immobiliser?

Why? The first thing I did when I bought my Sierra is remove the bloody annoying thing...

It needs to have some sort of key, or remote, or a coded car key so that it can't be operated without it. I believe they need to immobilise both ignition and the starter...

OK, they start at $170 installed for a basic immobiliser - the transponder types are $280 installed.

i just got a transponder type installed by identimark in canning vale WA for $220 they even came out and installed it at my house for free

Probably because i can start it with almost any key that will fit in the ignition, and it has been used as my daily on many occasions. I'm up for the whole find 30 thing but would prefer to find my zook where i left it.

$280 installed??? weird... im sure i payed far less (unless i got 'mates rates' and you didnt)... either that or mine was a pain in the ass and now they know what to charge lol

You can buy them and fit it yourself. I have assisted fitted a full imobaliser and alarm to an old XD falcon. The packs now days are pretty straight forward and come with a complete wiring diagram. Check Supercheap or repco.

i reckon for $220 installed its pretty cheap for the transponder type - took the guy only about 30mins to install it too

Do they make any where you need to punch in a passcode on a keypad or something, so it doesn't matter if you lose a the transponders or something?

I mean yeah you could brute force it, but with 9 numbers and a couple of minute lockout after say 3 failed attempts it would take a bloody long time!

I can't find the install parts on Ebay for a transponder immobiliser... not too sure what to look up

if an installer can do it in 1/2 an hour, gimmie the parts and 1/2 a day and surely i'll have it sorted?

You can buy the Dynamco/Cyclops from Coventrys stores in WA, Thats the best brand. The relays inside the unit are rated for 40amps where some of the cheaper brands can only carry 7 or 15 amps.
Cheap is not always best with immobilisers. Used to be several years ago when they brought it in they had to be fitted by a registerd installer. (police clearance and stuff) It was a stupid idea for that didnt make anyone install them properly.
Just make sure the unit goes up high so its free from water and no problems will be had.

Mate i bought one from rapid electronics, comes as a full kit takes about 2-3hrs to install, very easy cost me $65 and it is approved for WA Definetly good value.

this one is both alarm and immobilizer, you can also hook up central locking later if you want that.

legally its just an immob you need... try searching "proximity" immob rather than transponder...

A 30 minute install is 30 seconds to bypass

If you truly want and install that we be near impossible to override and can solder and work a test light, let me know when you are ready to install it and ill give you some tips

^^^ listen to Royce, he know stuff about electric strings & things that spark.

i've seen how easily a poorly installed immobiliser can be bypassed, it's quicker than hot wiring a car as they've already identified the wires you need out of the loom.

the alarm in my zook took a day & a bit, but that included beers, a couple of bbq's & a heap of other electrical stuff while the car was stripped of the interior.

yeah my immob is buried behind the dash in a hard to get at spot, and all my wiring is super taped up so its harder to find. I know my immob install took over an hour cos i was there when they did it. I dont remember exactly what was done either but i know they had it wired to multiple things to increase its effectiveness.
