Hi, I went and had a look at this today Sierra . First time ive ever driven a zuk and it was pretty awsome driven around with a grin on my face :D . A couple of things though that i was hoping someone could help me with please or give opionon on. (sorry about the spelling)

1. It had a winning noise from the rear diff...

2. The gear box pops out of 2nd but apparently due to a body lift its had could that be why?

3. No mod plates seen on the engine bay for the nice roll bar nor body lift (forgot to ask if he had the paperwork for the mods but hasnt got around to put a plate on) not sure about the mod plate concept

4. Is it hard to find a stock sierra steering wheel? (for rwc)

5. The lowrange isnt that easy to get into nor did really slow it down (this due to bigger tyers? would reduction gears help?)

6. The springs have sagged pretty badly (its flat)

7. It had a little bit of smoke on cold start but nothing major i could see when driving

8. Fuel cap is non existent (hard to get?)

9. The gromets on the floor are also missing are they easy enough to get?

I think thats everything i can think of sorry its a few questions and thanks for any help, im not really convinced its worth $5500 but it is pretty clean with not any major rust i could see nor bog, he also assures me it hasnt been in any accidents.

$2500 tops. If he had sorted out ALL of the issues you have mentioned it would be worth closer to what he is asking.

For $5500 or aywhere near that I would pass on this one.

1 - Could be a bearing, low on oil
2- Yes, trim the inner boot and it will fix it
3- I doubt many people would care abiutthe roll bar mod, depends where you get a RWC from. Body lift needs to be approved/inspected by DOT
4 - What is wrong with the one on it? Easy to change at any rate
5 - Could be te shifter bush making it hard to move, reduction gears are the easiest and cheapest way to improve the gearing
6- Springs are cheap and easy to find, even 2nd hand ones come up on here frequently
7- It's an old car
8 & 9 both very easy to find, eBay and suzistore.com

From the sounds of that I'd be going closer to $1500!

Also did you put it in 4wdH or 4wdL? Cos big tyres or not there will be a difference.

I think the bigger thing to worry about is if they cant be bothered sorting out those detail parts (that are easy fixes) how poorly has the rest of it been looked after?

rusho: thanks, thats good it doesnt sound that hard to fix

SierraDan: yes i tried the 4l and 4h and there was a difference but only really in 1st gear, it just wasnt as slow as i thought it would be in 4L

royce: the rest of it is in good cond for its age, hes had it serviced by a mechanic i know of, and it doesnt have any real panel damage but yes i agree how poorley has the rest of it been looked after for the 10 years hes had it

Don't buy it. $5500 should buy you a really good one. Just be patient and wait for the right one.

Yeah, I'd definitely pass on this, unless you can talk him WAY down.

1. Tell him he's dreaming!

2. Tell him to fix the POS before even thinking about selling.

Fly to Vic and get Tobes's for a bit extra :p

Seriously though, whatever Sierra you get, check it over and be happy you've found as much as you can before you buy it. I couldn't check under the carpet or anything when I bought mine, and everything on it looked schmick as, but when I took the carpet out I found some stuff that needs fixing, and the engine got REALLY tired REALLY fast so make sure that if you're not sure, you factor in the extra expenses you may be up for.
