hey guys i was looking into running a Full Float Set up

now i dont know much about this stuff been doing a bit of reading and found some kits there about 800 $ ish

now i could buy Hilux Diffs for that ..

i was wondering if anyone's made there own using bits off other 4bys or the front WT Diff ?

Also is it worth the effort or should i just buy lux diffs ?

The money is in the axleshafts. Other than that it's a machined plug for the axle seal to sit in and a plate to adapt to a sierra front hub.

The adapter plates themselves cost me $10 each to get laser cut - hubs and brakes are cheap.... but the EN-26 axles we get made are now $405 EACH = $810 to do one floater.

There's no bolt in axle shaft option.

there are cheaper axleshaft options - cheaper materials, less labour spent necking the axle down at the spline and polishing the seal area etc, but it's still going to come out a $300 or so a shaft.

However, when you price hilux diffs, make sure you are realistic about the complete cost.

Will the gears work? They're going to 4.3, 4.5 or 4.88,

Rims?

Lockers?

Rear disc conversion?

Driveshafts?

U bolts

Spring plates

How are you going to sort the steering? Will a 60 series steering arm work with your SPUA application? Custom drag link? There's Toyota to suzuki high steer conversions, but they aren't cheap and won't work SPUA.

I think lots of people kid themselves about the real cost of hilux diffs. The diffs are cheap, but there are costs.

MQ/MK is a far better solution for a SPUA build. Much cheaper, 4.6 gears, front pretty much bolts in to a widetrack , steering is easy. Plenty strong. Big and dumb though, which is fine if you want a big and dumb truck.

IMHO, no non-suzuki diff "upgrade" is justified under a 34" tyre, because with the extra width and bulk of the hilux/mq/whatever diffs you'll be getting spanked by 31" tyred sierra diffed cars unless you are running a 35 or bigger.

Thanks Again Steve so from what u just said lux diffs require alot of work
now that i think about it u are right even if i got the diffs for free

id be spending at least 1000 $ on lockers and Steering it would be cheaper to
keep my zook diffs now that iv spent over 1000$ on them lockers cromolys etc etc

even with 35s on Hilux Diffs il have crapy Diff clearance right ? need to run something like 37s to Justify the change ? .....

Has anyone done a Float Kit pics links / info been looking on pirate4x4 and I zooky for info .. thanks

Just going through this now. I've had some very usefull guidence from Steve, and should have my vit floater shite done soon. I'm using sierra front hubs and spindles.

From the research I have done, the floater conversion should give a useable increase in axle strength, as it no longer has to support the weight of the vehicle AND deliver drive. And having custm shafts made is also the perfect time to step up to a higher grade material for a bit more stregth again.

Joe is almost finished seting up his shop for this sort of thing. Perhaps send him a PM and see if he can help you out.

if my last set of axles is any thing to go by, mine will cost me around half that cost though

Will do, unfortunately I am at the mercy of the hardening firm. If I give them a lot of axles thay may do it quicker.
