have noticed every time i open the oil cap there is a white creamy looking substance on the cap. have heard it could be a blown head gasket but does not use any coolant, but i have noticed a fair bit of water does come from the exhaust??

what colour is the oil?
is it the same milky colour?

if so then blown head gasket for sure.
if not there is a possibillity that it is just a mixture of condensation and oil.

take it for a longish drive then check, it may just be condensation.

if you only ever go on short trips the condensation in the engine doesnt get a chance to 'burn off', hence the buildup.

if you go on truips where it gets to full temp often i would replace the head gasket ASAP...you dont want to get stuck somewhere, try nurse it home and do big $$ damage compared to a cheap gasket replacement

As long as the White creamy stuff is just in the cap, wipe it out and keep an eye on it... if the actual engine oil is creamy, then you have big problems...

The fuel you are getting may have some water in it... bung in a 3rd of a 1ltr bottle of Metho in your tank next fill up, it will remove the water...

Does the water still drip out of the exhaust after a long trip? If not its probably just condensation again, but in the exhaust...

If a bit of water was in the fuel I'd expect to see steam, not water, coming from the exhaust....

my girlfriends barina had me worried the same as this also. The cap was pretty well caked in the milky shit, but engine oil is fine, doesnt use any water or oil etc and as the blokes have said after a longer drive not just 5 mins to work it seems to go away.

My old sierra had a blown head gasket when i bought it and you new it by the big smoke trail you left while driving  real white sorta thing, the water burning????

The Muffler acts like a condenser, especially if its a standard muffler... and then the water dribbles out the exhaust...

Last time I had water in the combustion chamber, as I saw was a lot of steam...

I noticed a small drop of coolant on the drive way today as I was walking past the zook to take the dogs for a walk to pick up my daughter from school. I thought I'd better check it when I get back.

I found that my overflow reservoir was empty and the level had dropped very slightly in the top tank of the radiator. I'd checked this about 3 - 4 months ago (possibly longer) and noticed that the coolant level had dropped a bit back then also. It turned out the heater hose clamp under the intake manifold needed tightening.

Anyway I checked the heater hose again and it seems pretty tight but it's obvious that coolant had dripped on to the driveway so I tweaked it a bit more.

I thought that I'd also check the radiator cap. There is evidence of milkiness but not enough for me to be concerned about a stuffed head gasket. I pulled the dipstick and the oil is clear. I've only been doing short runs in the zook lately as I mostly walk the kids to school. I reckon I'd be lucky to use half a tank in two - three weeks. With this and that fact that it was bloody cold this morning, leads me to believe the 'milky residue in cap' is more likely the result of condensation build up which is the result of the engine not reaching a hot enough temperature to burn it off.

I've attached an image of the cap. Does anyone agree or should I be checking something else. Keep in mind there was coolant on the driveway which leads me to believe the heater hose or possible another hose is the culprit

do a compression check or pressure test where you shut the valve ond pump air into the combustion chamber, its got a proper name for it but I can't remember what its called

^^ I was thinking that would be my best bet of eliminating the head gasket as being the problem. My PO Box is 11km's away since we moved so I only check it once a week. I think I'll go for a run either tomorrow or Friday.

Check inside the valve cover breather hose that goes to the airbox too - if it's got the same milky oil in it as the cap I'd be pretty confident that it's the head gasket.

I did a search on the internet and read about that as well. That will be the next think I check. I think a new PCV valve is about $22 from suzistore.

If the milk deposit did get that far up there definitely would be a problem.

correct me if im wrong - but im pretty sure you can just take the PCV valve off all together (at least in the short term) as its mainly an environmental attachment. obviously you'll be left with a hole in its place but if you took it for a spin and the milk went away then you know its just a $22 part... if it didnt go away then you might be onto something more serious.

Isn't the outlet (on the rocker cover) for the PCV where some people fit 'Oil' breathers?

Took the zook for a big run. Wiped the milky residue off the oil filler cap last night. Did the post office run today. No milky residue on the filler cap. Definitely condensation is the cause, due to the cold weather and short trips.
I've noticed there are hoses that are starting to show slight detioration and are due for replacement. All good for now. :peaceout:
