hi guys. recently got my 92 sierra running with the 1.6 vitara motor and gearbox. now. im looking at ordering a spoa kit from lowrange next week but im in desperate need of some tips to get just a bit more hight as my front diff hits the sump of the 1,6 even on the smallest bumps. was thinking about just making some extended shackles for now. would shackles about an inch longer than stock give me a bit more lift? or any other ideas? cheers

Put a 1.3 sump on and modify your oil pickup to suit.

How bout changing your diff over to a 1.3 sierra. Gives ample space! No lift required to clear, even on the bumpstops. Would seriously reconsider your choice of going SPOA for engine clearance issues.

it has got the 1.3 diff and im not doing spoa just to clear the sump. just need something for about 2 weeks to get me through untill i get my spoa kit and new tyres. thats why i thought extended shackles might give abit more lift?>

Extending the shackles only raises 1 side of the spring, so your diff will only move away from the sump by at most, 50% of the pin to pin extended length.
So the inch longer shackles you suggested will only help by 1/2". Marginal, but not worth the effort.
The 1.6 sump is the problem, not the height of the car.

ah ok then so to do that id need rediculously long shackles. hmm ok then thanks. looks like ill haveto start looking for a 1.3 sump

re drill the spring pads on ya diff to move ya diff forwards. don't go more then 45-50mm
and think about how the diff and spring bolt together as it is easy to move the diff the wrong way.
should give ya enough room.

just another quick question. my leafs look like this l instead of this (. looking at some ome leafs for front and rear. im not sure weather to get stock or 2" higher springs. if i got 2" higher how would my stock shocks be for the next 2 weeks? or would they be way to short?

4x4zook: Lets start with which state you live in as laws regarding vehicle mods vary greatly from state to state.
SOA is ILLEGAL in most states of Australia.
Your sump is hitting the diff because the dodgy bastard that fitted the 1.6 only did half a job.
A 1.3 sump and modified pickup should be fitted as they have a shape better suited to the diff to allow lots of clearance.
