haha thanks mick.. its ok i'm borrowing the shop's delivery ute... when the brakes are cold they lock up solid... fuckin awesome fun in peak hour on wet roads!!! (not). LOL

should be all fixed and back together tomorrow for me. prolly going to feel like a new car (bloody better well feel like it, its practically a whole new rear end!).

Anyway i figured i'd post that damage list for anyone else experiencing similar backlashy feelings... in hindsight having 2 cracked and 1 twisted axles as well as a shot wheel bearing it wasnt at all a good idea to do 100km/hr a couple of times as well as going and driving mud/rocks for a day! lol

OK so the cause of the "backlash" was a combination of twisted axles and 1 diff bearing on its way...

nar splines arent worn but apparently they were slipping around cos of the twist... go figure.

wow... its like driving a new car now =) lol

i had a vibration at 70km/hr which is now gone, accelerating is sooo smooth as well.

Final list of things done:
-Machine Rear Drums
-Replace Shoes
-Machine Rotors
-New Front Pads
-New (2nd hand) Axles
-New Rear Axle/Diff Bearings
-New Diff Oil (obviously)

Andrew - backing off the throttle you'd think it'd also happen when you get on it... but i'd be checking all bolts/nuts are done up first, after that grab the tailshaft and feel for movement in the splines and unis... failing that jack each wheel up and feel for movement in them.

Done all that, but nothing seems wrong my old man thinks it's the coils hitting the shock, but i don't see why it would happen when back of the throttle

sounds like it could be flogged out radius arm bushes, it's a new car... claim warranty.

i have just noticed a similar noise on my sierra a clunk if you let the clutch out to quick and a clunck if you back off the throttle to quick so i am guessing it is the diff bearings just wondering where to get this done in the ipswich/brissie area and how much it should cost
