Hi Guys i have a 1992 SJ70 and am putting 6.5:1 reduction gears in with updated output shaft and a full rebuild....
I have a good mechanical knowledge and was wondering if any 1 could tell me how hard rebuilding the case actually is before i go pulling it apart!!
any help would be greatly appreciated .... Cheers

It's very straight forward, as long as you have the right tools.

Ok then.. i got a pretty full shed, what sort of speciality stuff is required??

Having never seen one done before I was 100% hesitant to tackle mine.
31zook generously ended up rebuilding it for me while I looked on.

If you follow the instructions it's very much idiot proof. I wouldn't hesitate to crack mine open and do it tomorrow now.
Just make sure you've got all the tools you need to do the job first. ie: gear puller, hydraulic press, thickness gauge, shim paper, sealant etc.

Just remember if you attack that small cage bearing in the end of the shaft, be prepared to see it through...

Apparently you can get a gear/bearing puller that is small enough to do the job though so this may be handy!
