Howdy fellas,

Well, let me start by saying I am no mechanic. Some of you might remember another thread I did when I changed my girlfriends clutch.
Now, I haven't seen a billion flywheels before; But I have seen enough to know this looks kinda funky



The whole between the dowel and threaded hole on the bottom half is what I am concerned about. Maybe concerned isn't the right word, more intrigued as to what its caused from.
It doesn't look like a machined finish.

original balancing holes from when it was cast?

The two big holes are where weight has been removed to balance the flywheel.
Likewise with the hole between below the dowel and above the threaded hole.
The other bits are just casting imperfections.
None of it is any cause for concern.

Haha cheers guys. I had never seen them before. Always keen to learn new things.

It seems that all the weight has been removed from one section. do they warp or anything like that?

it's done to balance to the rotating mass of a motor, a balanced engine that has been built properly will have those sort of random drill marks from the crank shaft pully right thru to the clutch pressure plate. including each piston, conrods & crankshaft.

the result is a smoother & better revving engine

Are they balanced to a specific engine. I.E could this be put onto my engine and throw it out of balance?
