i have a few questions in regards to roof racks.

im sorry if this sounds dumb but i can't seem to work it out so that's why im asking you guys.

How much weight can the standard Jimny roof rails hold?the gross weight of roof rack plus cargo must not exceed the loading capacity 30 kg - straight from my owners manual

the next part of my question(is because i like the idea of a roof top tent).

the only racks i can find for a jimny are only capable of supporting 50kg
the problem i have is that the only tent i can find has a weight of 56 kg, now if you run with some crazy logic and say that their are two racks then maybe?? you can support 100kg by distributing the weight. That is fine but how then can any one sleep in it unless they are a child or a really small adult.

if any one has one of these please let me know how the whole thing works as i don't really have much exposure to them

If you have quick look in your owners manual there should be a total load for the roof rails, my wife's pajero has similar roof rails to the jimny's and it has a total load rating of 100kg so a rack and some camping gear is all iam game to chuck up top at the end of the day the roof rails dont look strong enough to hold much more than that and another thing to concider is driving a jimny with 56kg on the roof our pajero gets thrown around by the wind fully loaded and it is a alot bigger car

Your load rating will be a dynamic load, ie max load when moving. So when your stationary with the tent up and people in it, that load limit doesn't apply.

Even the racks on my d40 navara are only rated to 80kg, and I've never had any issues with using a roof topper loaded up with 2 adults and 2 kids, with all that your probably getting closer to 250kg.

50kg is heavy for a roof topper. Mine was about 35kg.
