Ive just done the same on my Sierra, with the same setup.
I had the arm angled abit towards the rear and by the time i adjusted it the arm was pretty well straight down.
The standard excedy clutch is nice and light compared to my old HD clutch that you almost had to stand on to work it and would wreak cables flat out.

Yeah if I have it straight down, I can't tension it up cause it pulls the lever forward, and then hits the gear box and has no leverage... And still 100% free play...
