havent personally tried and never will run magnatec in any of my cars due to the fact a mate of mine works in a toyota dealership and they use magnatec oils threw their motors and he said he has had to have taken the sumps off a number of their toyota's to then find alot of small metal filings through-out the bottom of the sump... always thought castrol made a quality oil but after hearing and seeing what it does to some motors im not a fan at all. would prefer to spend the extra dollar and get penrite.

sounds more like a typical shitty toyota problem, i've run the 10w-40 magnatec in my Vitara for the last 75,000kms & i've never found small metal filings through-out the bottom of the sump.

Do you use Morreys with your magnatec oil??

nah not yet, I've been meaning to grab a bottle & run a mix for 5000kms to see if it comes out with anything sludgy... but overall I think my motor is pretty clean on the inside as I'll always put a Nulon oil flush through it before dumping the oil every 5k, looking in through the oil cap only shows a light golden staining in a few spots, the rest of it is clean cast alloy.

I've run Nulon Oil Flush + Morey's + Magnetec 10W40 in the past. I'm not sure if the Morey's made a big difference though and now just use Nulon + magnetec.

Anyone like a particular sealant for Diff centers into housings, TC housings back together etc etc.
I have used permatex but seen sikaflex used a lot also!

Any preference?

I used permatex ultra grey when I put my TC back together, it seems to be doing the job.

So what grade of oil did early 90's Sierra's and Vitara's originally leave the dealer's yard with (or does that depend on location, climate, etc)? What viscosity choices were there in 1990?

I'm looking to do my first oil change since replacing engines, probably either Shell HX5 Gas 15W-40 or Magnatec 10W-40. I'd rather go with factory spec oil, but the graph in the Haynes manual is a bit vague for me :?

mines always filled with 20w50... it might not be right but its easy to get.

i think factory is 10w40 as you said - but then did factory take into account our higher temperatures over here?
