well the other night i had a few mates over and after a few drinks thourght it would be a good idea to put a v6 commo motor into my LWB vitara.
i just so happen to have a LWB vitara as a parts car and just so happen to have a commodore v6 engine, box and cut down wiring loom complete engine swap ready to go into a car.

i will put range rover diffs under it front and rear

would this be possiable. has it been done befor?
what would i do about transfer case?

V6 has been done.

There's a zook I used to work on up in northern Sydney that competed and was running rangie diffs. He ran them with Sierra transfer and Sierra engine.

i did find this one on youtube but i wouldnt do a supercharger on mine are you able to get a hold of that guy that u know that has done one i am very interested now all i need is the diffs and sort out the transfer case thats allmost it

Look up Tigger on here. You use a Hilux case with adaptors from marks

Yep. ANd with some interwebbing you can slap on a RB25DET head and snail for some SERIOUS grunt!

But fitting a straight 6 into a vitara would be nigh on impossible

Patrol diffs will line up with lux tcase. rover are off set and gearing is wrong.

have you ran a tape over anything yet?

Brett, have you seen the white rangie zook up your way yet?? He competes in toperi and willowglen. It's a Sierra but yeah, that thing runs rangie diffs and standard Sierra case

Rangie diffs are wide, but not that strong. And Toy diffs have MUCH cheaper and more readily available aftermarket parts than Rangie gear.

havent seen the sierra on rovers in real life.

Why would you go lux diffs? Vitara diffs are wider. that would be like putting nt sierra diffs under a wt

nope, it's a heavy old low tech motor the only good thing about them is they're everywhere & cheap.

I'd be looking at the suzuki H27a 2.7l V6 similar power out of less capaicity & less weight.

yeh thats the thing i could get that suzuki engine but i allready have allmost all the parts i need i got a complete engine and gearbox with the wiring loom allready cut down to suit v6 conversion and i allready have the car with no engine in it.
but i read that build up that that guy did and he said that he used prado chassis which i duno how much that will cost me if i can somehow get new diffs under the vitara chassis would be what i would go for being the cheaper option

What's the purpose though? Are you planning for it to be road driven, or is it a comp buggy? and if so, what comps will you enter and will you comply with the rules? or is it just for social wheeling bush only? if so, do you have places to take it?

im not sure what i would use it for mosdt likly as a bush basher comp would be allright but i dont think i can afford to do that. even better making it road leagel but would cost me alot engineering it all up. would be just for fun thats about all

In what way do you think it will better with a 3.8 v6 in it? Vitaras don't lack power off road, only gearing.

If you are a really good fabricator and problem solver, then knock yourself out, but it's going to be about four times more complex and expensive than you imagine now, and might not ever be drivable, legal or reliable enough to ever actually enjoy. and then you'll go on a trip and get spanked on an obstacle by christover.

I bench race all sorts of crazy ideas after a few drinks, (somtimes even sober) but not everything you own or can dream up is a good idea just because you own it or can dream it up.

Keep it simple I say.

yeh i just wanted to make use of that engine i have lieing around and now that i got a car with no engine i was thinking i might as well put them together see how it gose but its a pain in the but as i have to change diffs and sort out a transfer case and adaptor plate for it

Give marks 4wd adaptors a ring and ask to speak to elliot booth and tell him that your a friend of dave's and after mates rates on prices! (elliot was my best man at my wedding ) That way you know your not getting bent over by some random guy working for marks. (your getting bent over and jabbed by my mate ) Naw, seriously, he's a good bloke and will look after you
