He asked if we could try chem e weld. I said, would you be happy with that would ya? He said not really. I said exactly lol.

I will drop the car off on Monday and he is going to take inlet manifold off and all the bits and stitch the crack.

Yay!

Don't want to give you more bad news mate but i've read that welding the block wont fix it, it will just crack further along
I could be wrong though......

WELL THE ENGINE IS SHEPPED!

There is a crack in my farking block!! Pressure tested this afternoon and crack is 40mm long right next to front welsch plug behind water pump.

Only opens up, sprays coolant when highway driving.

Mind you I just spent $1750 two weeks ago getting my engine reconditioned, all the while my engine block is cracked!?

Question is... Imagine your in my shoes...

What would you do from here?

I know how you feel, 8 months after buying my SWB 89 Vit, the block cracked near the engine mount, exhaust manifold side... thats after i spent $2500 on repairs and mods... but i took it back to the same caryard, and traded it in on my GV, they didnt ask, so i didnt tell... and my old Vit is still driving around...

Glad to hear you are going to have a good outcome from the mechanic... if you think its cursed, go get a priest to bless it and splash some holy water on it, alot of truckies do it ! :D

No stress Joe. Deffinately no welding my poor engine.

The crack will be "stitched" or "pinned" as it is sometimes called. Small threaded screws are drilled and tapped along the crack overlapping slightly. I've seen some pretty amazing stuff with the Lock and Stitch products.

I will take photos of it when it's done. Hopefully they don't fuck it up. Please god, one favor is all I ask...

It seems to be a common 1600 trait, lots of1600 blocks are running around with welds on them, just take it to where you had it reco'd and see if they will come to the party and weld it up for you.

"update to the Engine builder of the year award"

Got the car back yesterday from having the crack in the block stitched.
This took them a week and a half, the first attempt left it still leaking. He replied with " i didn't know the glue on the screws had to dry"Second attempt Seems to have stopped the leak but I was driving it home and the heater didn't feel very warm. When I got home I purged all the air from the system and went for a drive. The heater was a little better and then all of a sudden it went cold. No heater any more.

Let me guess, or is it a coincidence its happened now... My engine fella has poured chemi-weld in the engine and now my heater core is blocked?

Heater worked fine before going in two weeks ago.

Oh Cylinder no.3 is eating oil likes it $1 cheeseburger hour at Maccas. Car runs like shit, blows blue smoke on takeoff(no.3 oil munching) and the idle hunts due to its new oil injection system.

Feels like the car is nearly breaking the 30hp mark. 100km/h at 3/4 throttle. Put it flat and from 100 to 110km/h is about 15 seconds. FML!

not possible, although I could cut some fred flinstone holes in the foot wheels and gain another 50% power to complete the task.

on the chemi weld side of things, i put 3 bottles of the stuff into a TB42 GQ patrol & still had a hot heater, fair enough the cooling capacity is around 20l from memory but even that wasn't enough to effect the heater.

could you see any particles floating around in the coolant last night when bleeding the air out of it?

Yes I noticed the particles in there. I thought it was chemi as soon as I bled the system. Being a spankin new engine and radiator that's had 2 flushes I wouldn't think it would be corosion specs. Then apon driving Ive put 2 & 2 together. Logical?

I fucking told him not to put that shit in my new engine.

Nice selling btw Shannon.

I'd be so pissed! Revenge would be happening quickly and swiftly!
Is their workshop on a main road? if so id park ya car out front an put signs on it on with what crap theyve done and get the ball rolling on making them pay for it to get done properly.
These guys make race engines? :? Mind you thats probably irrelevent coz most race engines are constantly getting rebuilt

I'm pretty sure there's no problems naming a company on such a forum as this one. Good side to that is comes up if someone googles their name...

once it's all sorted can i suggest getting some quick set concrete & various engines/gearboxs & build a nice artistic sculpture in the driveway of his workshop.

getting in touch with your artistic side will help with the final look of the whole piece.

Yeah I'm no legal expert, but you'd have to go through and remove every bad thing said about any companies product. e.g. everything that's been said about OME struts of recent.

As previously stated, I have no intention to name names. Things just like this get around the net too fast.

This will be near the top of google search for his company name. Probably not a good thing. Not what I would want for my business...

Yes please. Maybe we could could all rock up there and ramp our Suzukis on his car. Now that would be fun.

Just came back from a drive... What a hunk of shit.

"update" new landspeed record, 100kmh-110kmh 19 seconds on flat ground and foot flat. I nearly left the ground at that stage so I backed off.

Hey Atari, come down to Bendigo so I can "borrow" your engine. You can even pick Chri88s' engine up while your here.

True story:

Hit 4th gear at 70kmh, with foot flat car will slowly pull to 110kmh at around 4,000rpm. Soon as you hit 5th it drops back to 3400-3500rpm and it seems to loose a fuckload of power?! Not just a little due to gearing and rpm drop I'm talking it feels like someone hit the "squirt fuckloads of juice in button" my engine struggles to accelerate in 5th.

Do Vitaras run a 5th gear switch? Connected to carby?
