i always thought the K&N cleaning kit off ebay or from an autoshop was pretty cheap considering the number of uses you get out of it?

while you are cleaning the filter have a close look for dust/dirt upstream from the filter
i think K&N filters let fine dust past the filter.

Not if you use the K&N grease and let it dry properly.

i tried one in my challenger and the first one failed due to a manufacturing fault and
the one they replaced it with let dust past the filter from new.

nothing wrong with stock paper which is what i will always use now.
my sierra filter is 4 years old and i reckon it will last another 4.

Does your vehicle live and breath in hardcore dust nearly everyday like shep's does? Try driving yours up to the cape or something if you want a real filter test.

Some of the dust is so fine that even the well sealed paper filters in airboxes with snorkles are letting a slight amount of dust through.

I believe it would be a different story if you took the princess up there and had some shep time :D

Get a proper K&N Cleaning and Oil kit. Alot of motobike shops sell them or try Repco. Used to be about $25 and you get half a dozen cleans out of it.
If you clean it with degreaser and dont re-oil then it wont work. the oil is what catches the dust :)

I have run K&N for as long as I remember, swear by them, never had an engine failure, and I thrash the shit out of my toys, cruelly.

Its for this reason I get the best I can for them, K&N, redline oil, Mobile 1 engine oil, change every 5000k.

Used to live in Katherine, driven all around oz a few times.

Never driven a car to the cape but, damit, one day.
