Could you just remove the tow ball and place a shackle through where the ball was ?? as a interim measure ??

Yes, that's what I am going to do.

"Tow" point's are not rated to "shock"...
So a sudden impact couldn't very well end up in a friend's death

Yes, that's what I am going to do.

I remove the towball hitch/tongue (whatever is the right way to write it lol ) (as the only good is for hit you on the foot ) so I place the loop of the snatch inside of the hayman reese thing and hold it with the pin that usually holds the towball tongue....... if im not wrong thats the way to do it

I dnt really think theres enough space to place a shackle in there

but the hitch would come handy as we realize on the last wheeling that not all the snatch straps loops fit inside.... the ARB one was too big

I meant as a "Recovery point" for tow rope, tow chain or winch not as as snatch strap point, some thing that you have already taken up the strain

I'm not the biggest fan of giving things a big jolt. Things tend to break faster that way.

Just don't hook to anything that could fly. If being pulled or pulling form the front, keep your bonnet up.

Look at everything you are hooking to, imagine it shot out of a purpose built cannon. If it can make a good projectile, do not hook to it.

We had a close friends brother take a square receiver with included ball hitch to the face. He was sitting inside a semi-truck. unfortunately he did not make it, he left behind a wife and 3 kids.

I also saw a small tree stump (bout 3' in diameter) go through the rear slider window of a full size Chevy, take all the skin and meat of a friends shoulder, and then exit through the front window. 1" to the right and it would have been his head exiting the front.

So just imagine whatever it is you are hooked to if the bolts broke, and it was fired at you. #1 would it make a good projectile? and #2 would you survive a blow to the face from it?

So will I just get the 50mm one and get some engineer to shave it down to 40mm ? Makes it damn expensive. About $60 for the 50mm one then about $80 to get it shaved.

If you go to you tube and search for 4x4 gone wrong you can see plenty of cases where people could have been killed with snatch straps. There is one where the strap has gone right through the spare tyre on a landcriuser. Scary stuff. Happy to return the favour for all the learning I have taken from this site Royce.

I spoke to ARB today and asked them if they had a rating for the recovery points built into ARB bull bar on a Jimny. It turns out that these are just tow points and not rated recovery points. Has anyone used these as snatch recovery points and what was your experience. Any bent metal or severed bolts?

x2... But I also use an equalizer strap to spread the load. Interesting that they said that because I'm sure one of their key selling points when I was looking into buying mine was the built in recovery points lol and I was only looking at them the other day thinking they didn't look like much!

I actually sent them an email and got it in writing. No rating because they are just tow points. I might check out the bolts and take a closer look at how the bar is attached. A bridle would be essential I think.
