Hey all.

Looking at putting a quality sound system in my jimny.

Just wondering has anyone mounted 6" speakers in the front and 6x9" speakers in the back. or even just mounted larger ones anywhere? Trying to avoid boxes for the 6x9's but if I have to do it I properly will.

I'm not familiar with Jimnys, but you might be able to do something like this (as I did in my vitara) for the 6x9's in the back. http://dorifto.hopto.org/wifi/pix/_Zook ... 7%20(Large).JPG.

Have a look on www.cardomain.com for Jimnys, there's usually some riced ones with bling speakers and lights etc

Another Idea is to skip the Whole rear speaker thing and just go for a set of decent fronts and a Clarion sub under one of the seats... this would give good sound and still allow you to save room..



The Clarion SRv303 is the Same sub that they use in the Suzuki Premium sound system anyway..

Anyone had 6x9's in the rear of their Jimm? Just wondering if the sound qual is lost, and I should just go for 6" in the front and maybe a slimline sub. I've pulled the rear interior panels off to sus it all out, and am considering making up ply panels, but it may be alot easier, and better sound quality to just squeeze them into the A pillars.

theres no space on the front for 6" anyway... u have to use 4"..... and if u figure out how to put some 6", please post some pics up i wanna se wht u did

for the rear an option could be on the back door.... if u take away that plastic cover and make ur own it would have the space or the 6x9".. but it would take away that concave shape of the plastic that allowed to u to have a "bigger" space on the back... so ppfffff

This is an Idea I had, but not sure if there is enough space behind the trim for the side speakers and the rear door speakers. Two slim subs under the seats might be a bit much doof but it would be awesome to try it. Just need to find a head unit and upgrade the alternator.

Let me know what you think. This will be a while away, the system is probably worth about $2000 and a shit load of time with fibreglass.

Whats the sound quality like on that? I've made a custom box for the back of my sierra to house my Alpine S12, But the S12 sounded like crap so i put a 400rms Pioneer sub in.. sounds better as it puts out more power and kind of drowns the shaky noise out, but the box is just too small to make any good bass :/ Is the clarion any good? might sell the other two and buy one of those to mount under my girlfriends seat

That was the setup I was leaning towards, but dosnt look easy to get the 6" to sit nicely in the front without a fair bit of work. I had the kickpanels out for a year or 2 with 6" speakers just loosely sitting in the speaker holes, but obviously this wasnt a long term solution. Time to do it properly, might just make up some rear panels and go for the 6x9s in the back, and 4" in the front. Needed to be sure I wasnt missing anything obvious...

Ive looked at the 5.5" in the B pillars, but dosnt appeal, and I cant actually work out how they mount neatly as the plastic grill is on a 45 degree angle, and 5.5" speakers would have to be outside the grill to fit...

Just the thread I was going to make.

I just bought a new head unit, and have 4x 6" speakers here.

I'm going to mount a pair of 6" in the front doors using cheapo angled spacers, but in the rear I am tossing up three options.

1. 6" in rear panels or door (so 4x 6" total)
2. Buy some 6x9's to mount in the rear panels or door
3. Get a small amp and 10" sub and make a custom box on one side.

My question is, whatt would a pair of 6" front speaker and a 10" sub sound like? Would the sound stage be OK or would it likely be heaps of treble and heaps of bass and nothing in the middle?

I'll happily post pics when I get around to doing it.

I HAVE GOT 6" SPEAKERS UNDER MY DASH IN THE FRONT I JUST ZIPPED TIED THEM THERE AND THEY DONT RATTLE AND THEY SOUND GREAT.

I just installed a 10 inch Rockford in a very nice MTX poly enclosure behind the seat of my friends for ranger.

He has some small 5" maybe? speakers in the door(aftermarket speakers in the factory holes), and some 6x9's behind the seat in the B pillar.

The bass is nice and crisp, the drums are nice and clear and the low bass is there too. The excellent bass response can be attributed to the quality of the box, and a good amp.

The mids and highs are nice and clear as well, it sounds good with no missing tones. The fronts put out enough sound for a good solid system.

The only problem we have is that he is not running an amp for the front speakers so we get some bass through the fronts. You can not get the midrange too loud without some distortion.

I think your 6" would make for a great sound stage with one consideration; a passive EQ, or a nice amp that has a good quality crossover so you can eliminate the bass from the fronts and tune it.

With that small of a speaker up front, you need to be able to tune the frequency, little caps and resistors or a so so amp crossover will not work. The sound will be muddy and the mid range vague.

A friend taught me along time ago that a passive EQ and a small amp can make the smallest of speakers fill an entire car with sound, if you can tune them. As long as you can tune the freq response to your mid.high speakers you can make them sound awesome.

3-way 5.24 inch (130mm) fit straight into the rear holes, only need drill some new screw holes. There's just enough clearance to refit the plastic rear panels.
