About a month ago i had a heater hose blow on the highway. by the time i had realized it had blown it was over heated. fixed the heater hose and it seem to run fine so i thought it was all good untill today when i did a service on it . when i was changing the spark plugs i found metal swarfs on the cylinder 1 spark plug, not many but a few, i also found that water is getting into the oil. its a G16a in a vitara.

water in the oil means blown head gasket or cracked block right?

whats the swarfs on the plug all about?

should i start looking for a replacement?

Was the oil really milky??

Also how has it been running since the overheating? Havent had any other problems, be it running rough, overheating or getting warmer then usual. etc.

already chuck the plug out. looked fairly normal other than the swarfs.

yeah a fair bit of milkyness on the oil cap. the rest of the oil was normal.

been running fine since, no over heating or playing up. just a bit of an oil leak and i think the water pumps started to leak a little.

it got 240000kms on it

Milky oil on the il cap can and is most likely from condensation inside the valve cover. As long as your oil is not milky when you drain it, it is completely normal.

metal swarf on the threads could possibly be from broken or damaged threads in the cylinder head when you unscrewed the spark plug.

you might have cross threaded the plug a couple of turns previously, and weakened or cracked the top threads- so when you took the plug out, you dragged out the busted bits.

You'll know it if the head gasket is busted. It isn't just a little milky oil it is white sludge all over the inside of your rocker cover and oil after like 20kms is caramel.

the swarfs were magnetic so unless the spark plug thread is a steel sleeve it cant be that. the swarfs were also like a flake rather then longish so it doesnt seem like its from the thread.

still going to OL, even if we gotta push it home

in this situation i usually just pretend nothings wrong... that way, if nothings wrong then i was right... if something catastrophic happens then something was definitely wrong =) ignorance is bliss until it isnt.
