Has anyone made/bought/found a side mirror that picks up the door hinge screws??? i wanna make an effort to run doorless this summer (ie: persuade the bloody screws to come out) - but to do it legally i'll need the mirrors re-mounted.

i figured the easiest way will be to just use some wing-nuts or something to attach new mirrors whenever the doors are off (2 bolts each side, would take no time at all).

Thoughts?

I'm about to make some.
Found some 4" round mirrors at Autobarn which just mount by 1 strut off the mirror toa single bolt hold and I am planning to make the bracket come off either the windscreen hinge bolts nutsert on just above

I think some hilux/land cruiser mirrors with some modded brackets would be the go....

Dan's moved his stock mirror forward. Looks like he's made up a little bracket for it.

early 1.0 side mirrors are very suitable to mount on the hinge.

i've got a snorkle which is in the way on drivers side, so i can't relocate the stock mirror.

What about a motorbike with a sidecar? Passenger side has a door but the driver's side dosen't. How irresponsible is that from the manufactures?

As long as what you were really trying to say was get some threaded base mirrors and mount them to the front of your guards, weren't you

thats my idea.
need to be a little careful in the mounting so the door wont hit when you have doors on and they are opened

Sure are I was looking round down at the local and spotted them, I've been after some mirrors for my build and these seem like they will suit perfectly.
Simple design and one connection point are ideal.

hell yeah - i also like that theyre low profile.

that is a ball joint on the back of the mirror too right? so it can be moved around?

Now all i gotta work out is how to set up my audio - got 6" speakers in the doors that i'll want to have a disconnect plug on, then somehow re-fit some 4" speakers in the factory location to swap over to them when the doors are off so while i wont have as good sound, at least ill have some... hrm.

just been googling around, motorcycle wing mirrors look the goods - one screw to attach and theyre quite flexible:

the factory speaker hole is 6" anyway

my concern with the factory speaker hole and throwing in a 6" speaker is that my foot is going to hit it all the time... my current speakers have a 20mm spacer off the door to be able to fit in? But i'll look into that, thanks.

the reason i want to hunt some wreckers is i'll get to check them out in person and make sure they'll bend and sit right, hopefully theres one thats got the same thread as the door screws, that'd be a fluke, but brilliant.

You have deep cone speakers then. I have Jaycar 6.5" kevlar splits installed in the stock location and the woofer fits fine with no spacer. Never hit it with my foot yet.

You can actually get slimline speakers that have really shallow baskets, but as I say, you won't be needing them. Just check the basket depth on whatever you do buy.

ah, cool - tim what brand/wattage etc are yours?? i know when i chose my current ones i went 3-way aluminium cone, and i think 220w from memory - i paid about $200 for the 2 6"s because i wanted quality... they've been brilliant too - i've had them under water a few times and theyre still going strong about 6 years on.

My Sierra speakers are Jaycar 6.5" Kevlar splits ... kevlar so they don't give a stuff about going under water. They were pretty much the best thing available for $150 at the time. Certainly not high-end audio, but good for what they were. Don't think you can get them any more though.

For my work wagon, I had some Morel Tempo 6.5" coaxials installed running off a 4x50W Alpine head unit. They sound pretty darn good for the price (I paid $240 installed at Westside Car Audio - had them fitted when they were doing the alarm install).

Have a look here for a review of the 6.5" split version of the Morels (same driver and tweeter, just not remote mounted). The very last paragraph at the bottom is their conclusion.

Not sure how durable the tweeter is on coaxials though. A whole lot less so than the woofer, I'm thinking. Probably a good argument for going splits.
