:D Picked up the weber conversion for the Vit this arvo and after some tinkering have found it to be a little more....involved  .

Here is the kit I purchased: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320764988876 ... 1423.l2649

First up, what have others done with the original water hose that went to the choke? Block it with bolt and hose clamp? Dodgymuch  ?

Second, Vitara fuel pump has 2 outlets, bottom output for main fuel feed, no probs. Top line went to the mikuni acc pump. Should I just route this to the tank return line? I dont want to block it off and fark my new fuel pump thats all.

Thirdly, takes breath..
This kit came with the "adapter" to suit the vitara airbox but...
Apon placing the adapter plate and carb on the inlet manifold for a test fit I have found it is sitting way too high to close the bonnet with the filter hat on 8O ! It came with a 2 peice adapter that seems to thick. How has everyone else mounted theirs whilst still retaining the original air box for snorkle?

Any input from fellow Weber fueled Vitaras appreciated!

i had the opposite problem, my weber sat to low and the throtle arm swings down and hit the manifold so it would open all the way. i got a thinker spacer gasket and im sweet now. but maybe you got a thick gasket instead of a paper thin type?

I'll chuck some pics up this arvo of it "dry" fitted.

Engine is going... Let's hope this carb makes it driveable on the highway.

webers dont normally like working to their full potentia lwith the stock airbox and a snorkel. its too restrictive on airflow and webers have to breathe easy for best performance.

but good luck.......

once it's going and your gonna be in my area stop by and ill have a fiddle with it for you and show you ome hints on getting it right.

I realize the impact the original air hat will have but need it for my snorkle configuration. I'm not a big fan of running a seperate air box.

But hey, anything will be better than my warped mikuni.

It will still work fine. You will just have to jet it according to the restriction placed by your airbox/filter setup etc

Can you post a picture of the carb to manifold adapter? Is it one piece or two?

I may have a few things you can do to liven it up a bit if you have the time later on.

I would definitely take Built4thrashing up on his offer, you would be surprised how much better a weber will run when a person with a little experience gives them a tune. Aside from that, he probably knows the in's and out's of the setting them up properly.

They are not complicated or difficult, but the more time you spend around them the more you learn, and the better they run.

Im a bit rusty these days but ive had webers on 3 escorts, 2 cortinas and the sierra. still even have the sierra's weber on the shelf waiting for new shaft seals.

once you start tuning them its actually quite easy.

Thanks B4T. I need to fab up a new Accelerator cable and modify the airbox to suit.

I will let yas know when she's running and how she's running. Thanks again.

a weber works quite well on a 1.3 so it should be even better on a 1.6.

Quick update. Carb is installed, all lines plumbed, carb hat fabbed and very well at that thank you Shaun! He is the Nibbler King.

Started her up and set idle screw 1 x turn in from touching throttle. Warmed her up and tweaked the fuel screw for the sweet spot. OMFG webbers are sooooo smooth. Super easy to tune and hold a rock solid idle.

When stationary from 0 to full throttle there is no hesitation accompanied by a monster induction howl.Transition from primary to secondary is flawless. This will be the tesing point when the carb hat goes on and also on the road under some load.

This is where B4T chimes in with all his jetting knowledge!

The carb hat has the paint drying now and will be ready for bolt on in the morning. You could say I'm a little excited! PS pics will also follow.

Took her out for a really good test on the weekend. First thing is a minispool in the rear of a Vitara along with the Calmini 3" is an awesome combo. My zook now climbs like a mountain goat!

Now to the carby, it ran well for the weekend with only slight flooding on STEEP downhills. Uphill were no problem at all.

Now the only issue I have is the intake setup I have...it sucks! Well actually it doesn't!
Power is low and I know why. I am yet to pull plugs and check but im 100% sure she's rich as a bitch and is struggling to breath. There is also a hesitation from primary to secondary and secondary power is also crap.

Enough with the talking and Take a look-

Custom Air hat to allow for original setup to be used aswell as still sit low enough to clear under the bonnet.

New fuel pump and plumbing. Note: Weber on backwards(fuel bowl at firewall)
Image

Top of hat on, Im guessing only 25-40mm clearance from top op Weber throats to top of airbox :(

I have the adapter that came with the kit but when placed on the carb it sits far too high. I'm running out of ideas on how to keep the standard airbox yet still have decent airflow.

My Ideas...

Mount adapter plate on carb and shim/space bonnet up some aswell as cut supports under bonnet for clearance.

Cut the top off the weber!!! Cut 5m above top plate and remove complete choke assembly. This entered my mind for a brief moment although is booty fabilicious. Not my style.

Any ideas welcomed!!!

Just a Q:

Did you port match your stock intake manifold to the base plate of the adapter?

If you didn't there will be minimal power gain to be had.

Before you blame the stock air-filter setup before the jetting, why don't you just go for a quick run around the block without the air-filter and top hat on. This will give you some feedback if that in fact is causing the issues.

Where did you get the weber from? Was it jetted for your application?

Yes ported to suit.

I may have to go for a quick squirt with the hat off to check the difference in power.
