the reason i want to hunt some wreckers is i'll get to check them out in person and make sure they'll bend and sit right, hopefully theres one thats got the same thread as the door screws, that'd be a fluke, but brilliant.
I had an American 5.5" (same as a jap 6.5" in the stock location and an 8" under it and the only trouble I ever had was sometimes wiping some mud out of the 8"

woo - got the speakers into the factory location, took me about an hour and a bit but the connections are soldered and never gonna budge. I couldnt fit the covers for the speakers cos theres no mounting points so i re-used them to fill the holes in the doors (so it looks like i've got speakers in the doors still).
NFI why when the 6" speakers were fitted they cut holes in the doors. maybe way back then speakers werent as small or something?
Off to the motorcycle wreckers tomorrow to check out some mirrors, been quoted $50 for a pair of "like new" mirrors which IMO is a pretty good deal if they bolt right on.

sorted... cut the hinges so the doors are easy-off, mirrors screw right in =)

did some test driving this arvo - the mirrors are definitely on the small side, but they do work and don't vibrate around too much.
gotta say, the zuk feels way more narrow driving with no doors - the peripheral vision is brilliant. I think i'm gonna enjoy driving it like this come summer (much to my g/fs disgust).

looks good mate, i bet ur glad u got those racing seats. the high sides are going to help you stay seated when on angles as you cant lean against the door!

haha yeah, i've got the steering wheel to hold onto though so i wont move much anyway, but the seats definitely make you feel secure in there. its an odd feeling being able to just hang your arm out into nothingness, but even better is leaning out and seeing what the front and rear tyres are doing =P lol
got a TON of looks - i get a lot anyway cos it looks like a rollerskate, but i had a few kids point at me and a few blokes give an appreciative nod etc while driving... then again maybe that cos they could see my sexy legs?

The door screws are M8 thread... so search for 8mm Mirrors.
Royce - Its not that bad, everything i see in my side mirrors i can see in the rear view anyway, and with the doors off a shoulder check is easier than ever!
Atari - i totally agree and i'm doing that (tomorrow i hope). I've got a bit left in my can of rustguard which should do the trick nicely.
Joe - dunno if it looks cool? Feels kinda goofy driving around, but fun at the same time =) _________________

interested in what makes you say that MrRocky...
its a 92 sierra - pre-dates the 1997 side impact laws - has hinges on the outside and a raised sill, and now mirrors as well (the missing piece to make it legally do-able).
Nothing i can find says its illegal to run without doors, only that if it meets certain criteria you can run without.

haha cause it came with doors, it has door hinges and a door latch
and if you roll it you will seriously mutilate yourself, first cop that see's you driving without doors = canary guarenteed

I'm interested too,
I drove a 1970's DJ5 jeep for ages with either its sliding doors locked back, or with the doors removed.
Drove through countless boozebuses and roadside checks and never had an arguement about doors. Had some ask about the 6 point harness- I told them it was so I wouldnt fall out when the doors were open! Never stickered, never fined, usually waved through- only ever stopped out of curiousity
Aftermarket elcheapo mirrors mounted on windscreen pillar.(tended to be disposable)
No sills at all- flat floor from side to side.

I called transport about it - they said if i'd asked like 5years ago it probably would have been ok, i'd just have to apply for a permit. They've since canned that to make things easier for themselves and now theres no 2 ways about it - if it came with it from the factory it has to keep it.
This means if you got a sierra with factory half/canvas doors then you legally can't fit full doors without first applying for a permit to do so!!!
They said i could apply to have no doors but it wouldnt be accepted - i do plan on applying to have half doors though, just cos i hate the guys in the technical section and like giving them work to do =) I'll also file a "no doors" application at the same time just for shits and giggles (as well as a letter from my engineer if he's happy to write it).
Its only a "cos i can" thing though... i think i'd prefer the 1/2 doors to no doors anyway.

Yeah well if that is what they said then they are talking crap, there is no identifying numbers or anything else to say a sierra is a full door or half door so there is no way that they can say if it came with factory half doors or not.

^ all that stuff about half doors / full doors is similar to the 2 seat / 4 seat compliance nonsense. Mine is registered as a 4 seater but because I have built shelves into the back (and sold the seats) I really should be getting it changed to a 2 seater rego. Rang the Department of Transport about it when I moved over here and they said it'd have to go over the pits.
You can guess what I've done about it, can't you
