So I've got one of the chinasonng lockers turn up for my front diff. However, when I pull it out one of the pins in the photo has fallen out in transit and what I think is the thrust washer has slid off to one side.

I'm guess I'm going to have to pull it apart to get it back in there properly. No big dramas there from what I can see.

But what I don't understand, is when installed what retains these pins in place? There doesn't seem to be anything obvious from the exploded view. What am I missing?

Hmmm Just noticed the "cross shaft retaining pin" in the exploded view. Maybe they've left this out when they made it

I'm fairly sure cross pins are held in place by the crown wheel on a vit,
only an issue if you have stuck vit gears into a sierra diff.

Was a while ago I had my diff out, but think thats what I remember

There is a cotter pin in the front diff (2 pinion) that stops the single pin type falling out.

Crown wheel is what holds it in.. But it does appear to have a space for pin on the end of the shaft.

I don't know is the ring gear that big? Anyone who's pulled an sv420 front diff out?

There's a hole where the retaining pin should be, so even if the ring gear would stop it coming out, I think they've left the part out... Chinese quality control at its best...

original diff will have a cotter pin, if its same as a 93 1.6

cotter pin held in by the side plate that you undo to access spider/side gears

better hope its not dropped inside itself, worth a shake, see if it rattles

I don't think so. There's no real way they could drop in

I'm not too confident in it as it is. I'll dismantle it when I get the chance and check the whole thing out before installing it.

Just a query but how much did u pay for the chinasoongs? And how long did the take to arrive if u don't mind me asking

$610USD inc DHL freight to aus. + $30 for the bank transfer. So when I bought it a few weeks ago it worked out to just over $600AUD.

Now since the oz dollar has dropped a bit you'd be looking at a bit more.

There's a huge thread somewhere about people buying them. Others have had a lot of success with them which is why I bought one.

This isn't a huge ordeal. At the end of the day it's just a 3-4mm diameter piece of steel rod I need to replace.

Yeah I guess. ARB call them a "cross shaft retaining pin" and there's three of them, one for each of the small shafts and one on the long shaft that goes all the way through.
