The clutch peddle pivots on a long bolt (which runs right across to the computer). The actual part where my clutch peddle mounts has bent so that the peddle now rubs against the steering shaft and there's so much play I can get in there and make the push rod fall out.
Anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Try bend it straight & push the bolt through.

Or pull the steering & peddle box out.

Now with pictures. We pulled the peddle box yesterday and, yes the support/pivot bolt was bent. For some reason excess force had been applied but it does seem a weakness. Anyway we beefed up the outer end with some 3 mm plate and reinstalled it. Shouldn't bend again but my fried said he'd repaired a couple with the same problem (on the older 1600s).

hey Steve, do you think this problem was caused by the issues you were having with the clutch earlier?

I think that has been bent since before I bought it but got worse. I cant really figure out how it happened because strictly speaking there shouldn't be any bending forces. Nevertheless I got worried last week when I was under there checking it and managed to get the push rod to fall out! It shouldn't do it on other Vits because a circlip in the master cylinder holds the rod in but we had removed that safety feature to lengthen the rod (should've fixed the obvious problem first) during my other clutch issue.

Its one of life's mysteries what previous owners do to vehicles and what makes them sell up.
