hi guys. ive got a auto locker in my sierra. believe its a lockright but not sure.

when i go on and off the throttle it bangs as it takes up freeplay i think it is. sometimes when it does it it steers the car one way? is that normal for it?

and also i did a tight turn in a shopping centre carpark today. while the tyre didnt chirp it did make like a clunk clunk clunk clunk noise from the diff and it free wheeled into the parking space. is that normal?

do they need to be serviced or any crap like that? im gunna change the diff oil atleast but. no idea whats in there or how long since its been changed

I get a bit of driveline slack with mine,
more noticeable in an auto,
but otherwise don't know its there.

It may need re shimming.
Or sometimes pins inside break,
you can buy new pins cheap.

need to shim it up a little moe i just pulled mine out for the simple reason that it bangs and smashes all the time have shimmed it up heaps

i did the test on the instructions to check its working properly

you jack it up in gear and when turning the wheels forward you wont be able to coz it will be locked.

and then you hold one wheel and turn the other backwards and you should hear it ratcheting.

then turn tyres forward then turn other wheel backwards

i have 2 proper functioning lockers

Hey Comptruck how annoying is it day to day? Im trying to convince myself to get an auto locker for the rear but i know itll shit me up the wall if its constantly knocking the crap out of itself

My rear auto is hardly noticeable, mines a daily driver.
It is well bed in, time smooths out the function.
Expect a bit of roughness when first fitted.
Open is best on road naturally,
but not all can afford switchable lockers.

Its not that annoying at all. It's only carparks and stuff that its noticeable.

Make sure equal tyre pressure or the profile is same eg:80% tread l/side with 50% tread r/side will cause load noise under power on hard surface at low speeds.
Most common problem is worn side gears allowing combined excessive backlash (not crown & pinion} between gears.

I have a swb and it's auto and I never notice it unless going around tight corners where it clicks. My partner has a Hilux with one in the back and it does some strange things especially in carparks. He fixes it by holding the clutch in before you start turning an release it when your straighten up. Doing that helps heaps
