SuziSport do a drive-in/drive-out deal for about $2,200 I think. They are in Springwood.

What's their quality of engine like?
Do they sell and I fit it?

They do an exchange and fit, I think that is all included in that price?

I have a 1.6 and a 1.3 reco from them in my coilies.
I can't recommend Graeme and Dave enough.
The 1.3 is still going strong after 6 years and 175,000km later.
That price is for them to fit and includes exchanging yours. Both reco's of mine took about 3 days - they did everything - literally drive it in and then drive it out ready to go. I doubt it would be worth your while to buy a reco engine from them and fit it yourself.

By doing it myself I get to check those hard to get at parts and fix them while the engines out if I need to.
Any other places sell exchange recon motors ?

I think you should take Ruebs advice, get Suzisport to do it, its a really good price for what they are doing, and if you stuff anything up, you have to fix it out of your pocket, if they do it, its their job to fix it, gives peace of mind...

Are you guys suggesting that Suzisport have their own engine reconditioning facility with the machinery to recondition engines. I can't think of one general mechanical workshop that has a full engine reconditioning facility attached. I would assume that like most others they send the engine away to be reconditioned by a engine reconditioner and that they do the removal and re-install.
Don4x4 there are plenty of good engine reconditioning places in Brisbane, are you on the Northside.

Nope, no one suggested SuziSport do the reconditioning, just that they supply great service at a reasonable price
I'd also recommend Hagens in Pickering St, Enoggera, they do some good work too

Man thats expensive. It would want to be a full rebuilt with new pistons, rods, linished crank and cam, new oil pump etc....
a reco motor is just rings and bearings and head if required. and that can be had for less than a grand. parts will cost about $250 and about 200-300 for reco head.

I thought a a reco motor was more than just rings and bearings and head.
I would expect a new oil pump and everything properly checked and test eg crack tested.

There is reconditioned and then there is reconditioned. If your buying one make sure you ask exactly what has been done

Yeah that's right, there is rebuilding and then there is reconditioning or remanufacturing. Reconditioning will start with a complete strip to bare lock and bare head, acid dip, crack testing, hardness testing, tollerance checks, prior to rebore, crank grinding, machining, decking, surfacing, valve face cutting etc etc before reassembly with all new components.
To recondition an engine you need some serious specialist machinery and a specialist who can operate that machinery and knows how to reassemble properly. On the other hand the basic set of rings, bearings and a freshen up can be done in your shed at home or your mechanic, (you really still should send the head away to have it surfaced)

Considering the k's on my 1.3 reco (it's done more than the factory engines from both of my coilies), I reckon it was built up a lot more than just re-ringed with new bearings.
Also remember the buyer is getting a package which includes a written warranty as well as they are getting their car looked at by a Suzuki specialist who has performed many (My guess would be a figure in the HUNDREDS) of engine swaps/conversions as well as diagnosed problems on probably thousands of Suzukis.
I don't know who builds their engines but in the case of both of my transplants (one with a 1.3 and the other a 1.6) the engine was already in stock at the time and parts were ready to go. 3 days later jobs were done - pay the bill - Drive in after 600k's and get the first service done and everything checked. Both my coilies had the carbys pulled apart and played with to get them running right for free - the mechanic having driven many Zuks over the years picked up problems I didn't even realise existed.
So yeah price might be high but IMO a Suzuki specialist (whichever one) will be a better option then the average workshop or average backyard mechanic but then again I guess it all depends if saving some $$$ is worth the risk of a headache later.

It is my belief that they assemble the engines in house and only have the machining done elsewhere which is the best balance I think, get the machining done by a specialist that knows about that stuff and the assembly done by somebody that understands the engines, rather than a one size fits all assembly factory

we get all our "machine work" done by other respectable companies , the "specialists" in their fields . the engines are assembled by us and guaranteed .
I can tell you exactly what entails a full reco engine ...
the block is sent off with new pistons , the pistons are measured and the block is bored and honed for the new pistons . the block is also inspected for any discrepencies and is trashed if there are any problems
the block then gets a skim off the deck.
the cylinder head gets any valve guides replaced and any seats replaced , or any valves replaced that is required . the valves and seats get recut and the valve stem seals replaced . prior to the work the head is sandblasted , after the work it is vacuum tested. some of the heads require some minor welding to repair pitting , other wise they are just skimmed to a perfect flat finish.
The crankshaft gets sent away to be reground undersize , usually .25 on the mains and .25 on the big ends.
The oil pump gets reconditioned with a new relief valve set . clearances are checked on the gears.
The block upon return from the machine shop is then acid dipped , after the acid dip it gets a wash , then it gets a "bore wash" with warm soapy water and a stiff brush to remove grit from the boring and honing process.
all other parts are washed ready for assembly.
the block is then mounted to a cradle , the crankshaft is fitted with new acl bearings , and clearances are checked . the rings are then checked in the bores for clearances , then the rings are fitted to the pistons and fitted , then checking for big end clearances (acl bearings again).
once the bottom end is done , the cylinder head gets fitted , oil pump , rear main seal housing , oil pickup tube , sump , all parts have been acid dipped , washed and cleaned like new.
rocker shafts , rockers , and camshafts get installed ,all checked , cleaned acid dipped , tappet clearances set , rocker cover acid dipped .
all new seals , gaskets , welsh plugs installed , new water pump , timing belt , timing belt tensioner . all other gaskets not used in the building of the engine is supplied to the customer for install , also includes spark plugs , oil filter , thermostat and a guarantee ! all for about $1700 ...
