Hi Guys. Ive been looking at tires and reviews of tires and pictures of tires all morning and my eyes are starting glaze over and befudel my brain.

I have a bog stock 2.4 3 door GV with standard steel rims and tires. I do mostly gravel and dirt track stuff but venture onto the beach from time to time. Im after a tire that will go on the steel rims with a bit higher profile and some sand grabbing ability (Something the originals dont do very well)

Any suggestions.

I have cooper Discovery atr...and probably have similar driving habits to you...I am happy with them.
Good on road, quite, but with enough agression for occaisional use.
ON my 2006 16inch rims I have
235/70/r16

Not cheap, but meant to last.



I should say also, Tyrepower are the only ones who sell them. But because Tyrepower are franchises, you can get them down on price.
For anyone in Perth reading this, I found Tyrepower Ellenbrook the cheapest and Tpower Inglewood the most expensive

If you want a cheap, but well made AT, then look at Maxxis, had them on my GV for over a year, and have taken then over Rocks, Mud, Gravel, and sand, and they have performed Very well !
And they go very well on road, wet or dry...

My Maxxis Bravo 771 Light Truck AT's, in a 225/70/16 cost me $185 each... Bob Jane T-Marts carry them, the USA website has the most info and tyre sizes available, check them out here -

I have seen the Bravo 771 called a Bravo 700 at some 4WD Expo's, and they are listed on the Australian Maxxis website as Bravo 700, but the Aust website doesnt list all the tyre sizes available either -

yes...mine cost me $280 a tyre, but most places quoted over $300

I put 225/75R16 BFG AT's on mine. They corrected the speedo exactly and gave it a more agressive look. They dont rub on anything and it drives beautifully.

Cheers guys. Ive heard the Maxxis are noisy on road = how do yours go. I was leaning towards the BFG as they look the part but I had them on my old Paj and they WERE noisy . Thanks for the replies guys

The Maxxis are not noisy at all, i cant even hear them, even with windows down... the older BFG's had a BIG problem on wet roads, they became like Ice skates, i dont know if they fixed the problem with the newer ones, but as for their price, they are one of the most expensive ... and IMO, they are selling them at a high price just because of their Brand name... there are plenty of AT's that perform better than BFG's, and are alot cheaper too...

Your not wrong about the new price on the BFG AT's. I bought mine 2nd hand for $150 from Ebay. but new they are up in the high $200's each.

Silverstone do a similar tread paternand are alot more affordable.

dont even look at the coopers unless you have really deep pockets. close to $300 each for the st.

Maxxis and fedral do some nice affordable tyres with a decent patern.

Talk to Dank. He has contacts for reasonable priced tyres.

I think the price of them is probably getting up there also, but I highly rate the Yoko Geolandar AT/S I'm running on my Vit (Link). Checking the sizing chart for them they come in a 225/75/16 also like B4T is running.

Deep tread, quiet on road yet still fairly aggressive. They also scored very well in the big A/T tyre comparison 4WD Action did about 6 months back, coming first in most of the offroad sections and I think 2nd overall.

Hi all, long time no speak.

I've had Pirelli Scorpions for a few years, they aren't all that impressive to look at, but are beaut on sand (and gibbers!).

On road I have Maxxis whcih I don't think will ever wear out.

Seems like we all run something different and we are all happy with our choices!
