Are there any recommended alternator options besides the 110A falcon part? 110A is a bit overkill for my plans, I reckon i'll need a max of 60 - 70A to cover my bases.

Just had a quick look through the 'good tech' article, lists a couple of goers but probably need more details before I can head to a wreckers. Ideally looking for a straight up swap over if possible - no pulley or water pump switch outs, and hopefully leave the radiator in. The easier the better.

N15 pulsar is a good fit. Just needs a spacer and multi belt

Better to have 110A Running @ 50 - 70% of its duty cycle, than have a 60 - 70A Alternator running at 100% Will just burn the windings/brushes/slip rings out faster :)

I think even with cd player cranking, high beams on, radio on and dual batteries most people will only be drawing about 35 to 40amps. a 70-80amp alt would be a good find if it would bolt straight in without belt change or modification. (perhaps more aplicable to people running stock carby motors with no elec options in car ie elec windows, aircon.)

That's all taken into account. I need around 60A with hi beams on, 200W worth of spotties on, 200W stereo cranked, inverter on, and A/C on, and ancillary car stuff. The reality is i'll never have all this fired up at once, and most likely 40A on tap will be enough to keep me covered... the stock alt can cover this, but I think I might be working it a little hard once I get a pair of 100W spotties on the front.

if you are G16 put the multirib pullies back on and fit a late vit alternator

the whole point of the Falcon upgrade isnt because its OMFG 110 AMPS!!!! I CAN RUN MEGA SPOTTIES its cause there are 7 billion falcons in wrecking yards so its an easy alternator to get for cheap

When I had a Sierra (with multi rib pulleys),
I chose to use alternators from swift/barinas.
A lot of them were higher output than a Sierra (think it was 50 - 60)
and all were much cleaner and in better nick
than those found on wrecked Sierras.

The falcon upgrade is such a no-brainer I have no idea why you'd run anything else. Choosing a dearer and potentially harder to find alternator because you don't need 110a just doesn't seem to make any sense. I don't need 110a either, but I can draw 45a at idle and no 70a alternator will deliver that. The falcon does though.

In my case i have 4 x 75 amp 94 lancer altinators sitting under my house that only need a pulley change to the v belt pulley. for a 75 amp alt there is no need to change fan pulley as well and no risk of burning out stock wiring.

I have what I think is a Vitara alternator on my spare motor. It has multirib pulleys, so too the water pump etc, but the crank pulley needs to come out 1 or 2mm to be nicely aligned. Can I use washers to bring it out some or do I should I use a specific type of spacer?

all bosch alternators have the same shaft diamter so you dont have to change it to multi rib just find yourself a spacer and a v-belt pully from another bosch alternator and bobs your uncle you dont need to get other pullys :)

Whilst that's true, they are harder to fit into a Suzuki as they have a wider spacing between the mounts. The EF/EL falcon swap is almost a bolt in and requires no pulley swap if you already have polyvee belts.

I've played with a falcon Bosch alternator and it was a pain to work with. I pulled the angle V pulley and put it on an EL alternator.

I can do it either way - on my LPG G16 it's a v-belt, on my other G16 it's a multi-rib but the alignment needs a tinker. Both motors are out right now so i'll definitely be working out how to stick the bigger alt on.

Unless you can recommend against it, i'll stick with the v-belt so alignment issues aren't a problem. I don't really have time to chase up crank pulley spacers at the moment.

V belts really aren't up to a falcon alternator. You can tighten them like crazy, but odds are they will still slip under high load.

I'd go polyvee.

Note that the 80 series cruiser had a 120A alternator, but used double V belts to drive it.

X 2 /\ /\

Even XD falcons with 80A alts had double V belts.
I ran an EF 110 alt on a single V belt for about 3 belts before I converted to multirib...
After all, Ford put a 7 rib pulley on the alt for a reason, running Vit 4pk is IMHO, marginal but better than Barina 3pk.

OK, the bigger alternator and multi-rib pulleys are now on. Does Repco or SCA stock pulley spacers? My crank pulley needs to be bought out a couple of mm to come into alignment with the alternator and water pump.

85amp Bosch alternator (EB/ED Falcon) on mine. Std belt and pulley. Easy, but not 'bolt on' fit and belt dosn't slip if its tight.

If you can fabricate/modify and you have knowledge you can fit basically any alternator you want :)
