Hey guys i wanted some opinions and ideas for a snorkle i have most the peices i need just need brackets. what i want to know is what some of your designs are and how you mounted them. i was thinking of having it go in down the front directly into the air filter then go up the side etc. but not sure how to do it.

also were do you get thoes nut inserts from we have never seen them before

Not sure where to get the nutserts, our consumables suppliers at work provides ours. You need a special tool to put them in too

why not do it RIGHT the first time and as RPM done, use STEEL/Aluminium/anything other than PVC...

id put alot more faith in resting the zuki against an embankment with a alloy/steel snorkel than what I would with a PVC equivalent...

Yeah id pay the little bit extra and get a nice looking stainless or ally one made up. PVC will eventually shit itself id say!

Mate if you look at my rig I've done a PVC snorkel it's wicked/cheap/easy and works just as well as an expensive stainless one. Gives the Sierra a bit of character aswell lol

does anyone!? avoid the inevitable... some swear by PVC, others are smarter.. PVC is for water and solid point vaccume cleaners.. leave the PVC in the walls I say...

for arguments sake lets say you DO rest the zuki on a enbankment.. chances of PVC pipe shattering with the weight of the vehicle.. 90% +/- chances of a steel/alloy one shattering... 0%..

same goes for low lying tree limbs.. they are often unavoidable..

Would you rewire the zuki with standard house wiring? or would you go the right way about it and get automotive wire!?

Horses for courses... you get what you pay for.. many members have given reasons as to the pros (not many) to the cons(amany) of PVC..

i think of it this way should i break a part of the pvc i can replace that part if i dint or break a steel/aloy one i have to pay the money and replace the whole thing. now in a perfect world were money is meaning less like it should be i could go all out but since money is the most important factor in 99% of the world cheaper is better

Till that piece of shattered PVC gets sucked into your carb. then what started as an 'its easy and cheap to fix' might just be 'Fuck.. Should gone with what the AZ guys said about PVC becoming brittle, shattering yada yada yada''

I had a pvc one on my old sierra.....never again! every trip it broke...and it shatters and ends up flyin everywhere....but it was cheap and easy to fix!

here is my new one soon to be stainless!

Hey mate if you wanna get your snorkel done cheaper buy the stainless direct from a manufacturer in meter lengths. And some bends. Then mark it how u want it and take it to a welder. Should end up about 120 dollars. Then buy a proper snorkel intake for thirty bucks. That's what I'm thinking of doing.

Another thought, eBay inter cooler pipe kits are really cheap to. And should be better than pvc

How would a shattered bit of PVC get sucked into the carb? You should have a filter in the air box...

Last year I fabbed up a snorkle. Made it from steel exhust pipe bent up at the local shop. Got it galvanised (for longevity) and then etch primed it and sprayed it black. Bought the safari head and bingo got myself an awsome as snorkle for about $200. Bolted it to the windscreen and away I went. The first trip with B4t in late october (his last sierra trip ) and 10am on the first track in Nerrim I went up a munted side track and ended up against a tree.
Thats alright, just back out..... forgot that the snorkle was there didn't I....
Folded the snorkle in the bend, pulling it thru the windscreen surround rooting the surround and window in one fell rev of the 1.3 Pretty pissed off I was, brand new snorkle, frucked, windscreen, frucked.



Lucky, I found a new donor zook to get spares from. Now over 12 months after that trip i've replaced the snorkle, with pvc this time.
Total cost for a pvc snorkle, $35. Compaired to the price of a metal/stainless on, fuck spending that extra money. Its more money to spend on wheeling!!

No more bolting to the windscreen, cable ties all the way!!!!


Cause I run duel fuel, the gas needs lotsa air (buggered if I know why :p) so instead of restricting the main intake, i cut a second one and siliconed a 65mm pvc onto the original intake. When I hit water or lotsa mud, I'll pop a 65mm cap onto the original intake and let the snorkle work its thing!

Once the silicon sets in a day or so, i'll put some flexy hose connect the snorkle to the left hand second intake hole and bobs your uncle, all sorted.

In my opinion, go pvc. The price that you pay for a snorkle thats made outta pvc vastly outways the benifits that you "might" get from having a metal on and 'resting onna bank'
Just let me add, I only used no-more-gaps to seal the joints on the joins on the pvc. If I do smash the pipe, the pvc will be able to seperated from the joins and the broken bits replaced. (its the joins that are the expensive bits) (AND no more gaps is paintable )
