For the hassle, weight and complexity I decided any advantages were outweighed. There are lots of variations but for the most part I don't see much of a point apart from out-doing your mates. Leaves offer a degree of friction dampening so the right spring choice will mostly not require shocks.

There's usually many different opinions with this question and I'm sure someone will share their pro-coil opinion.

A bloke in our club has a coiled home made camper,
I think its a suburu rear sub frame complete.
Think it even matches stud pattern of zooks.
Not a regular member, tho, so we could be another year before I see it again.

Just a quickie guy's.

I'm thinking of buying a ute tub and turning it into a trailer, what do you reckon would the weight difference be compared to a 6x4 steel trailer.

Why ute tub? Already painted, already has lights. Just needs A frame, wiring, springs and axle. And they're CHEAP!!!!

main draw backs with ute tubs is the weight and easier to damage, also end up with a higher centre of gravity. They can look cool though. If I built one of these again I'd strip and cut every unnecessary bit of metal out of it first as there's lots of double skins of sheet metal and tabs and shit.

I bought an axle off a guy on ebay, who was going to build a boat trailer,
it was close enough, made up differece with wheel offsets.

Traile builders etc will make any length axle you ask for.

5 x 3'5 trailers usually work well.

Mine is just a cheapy off ebay, cost $700 i think
For the axle just find the wms to wms (wheel mounting surface) measurement and get a trailer place to make an axle to that size

I'm rebuilding a old flip over camper with custom radius arms and panhard rod .
I looked at leaves but I couldn't get it high enough with them
It will be running 31'the same as the car so I have 2 spares and 2 more if shit hits the fan
I'm thinking it's going to be to heavy for the vit on long remote trips so I will have to get a ute for touring with the family I think and keep the vit for hard weekend trips

Does any one know how to position the axle so it's not to far back that it will put force onto the draw bar and not to far forward or it will want to lift the hitch up?

There is a percentage of box fore and aft of the axle specified by Qld transport which naturally puts an amount of down force on the ball. Can't remember the percentages and a lot of the trailers I see on the road don't adhere to this anyway.

I had to do that for Victorias laws.
Showing gross tare and home made,
plus had to stamp a chassis number into draw bar.
Unique number supplied by vic roads before building it.

I'm getting a new trailer very soon and i want to have a battery on the trailer to run the fridge and lights at camp but still be able to charge the battery while on the move is this possible or do i need to run duel battery's in the GV?

I was having a look into that same idea I'm pretty sure you run cable from your battery to a plug at the back ten the trailer plugs into the plug and charges the battery.
When I bought my dual battery isolator it had information about it all.

7 pin plugs/cables have 2 spare wires in most cases,
some use for trailer brakes and a power lead, and/or reverse lights.

Can't see why you need battery on the trailer,
just need a power wire from a battery in the car.
I guess its whatever is easiest to fit.

guess battery on trailer more useful if you want to run stuff when car aint connected to trailer....a charge wire would work same way...think its the blue wire normally

Spot on and i don't want the battery on the GV to run flat and leave us stuck
