Hey Guys,

I'm just after some advice from those experience Jimny Owners.

My favourite play are is Neerim South Area, especially over the north east side of the La Trobe River.

Now I used to drive a GU Patrol that was 2" lifted with 33"s.... when I crossed this river the water used to be at least up to the bonnet. Not sure how high it is in cm, maybe 150cm?

I'm a bit cautious now that I have the Jimny that it's not going to be heavy enough to stick to the bottom and will float away half way through the crossing haha....

What are your experiences with water crossings in your Jimny?

Well ive taken myne through a short crossing, flowing fairly fast during flooding last year.

It was over the bonnet and lapped the windscreen, i have a snorkle so that kept the air flowing.

It was maybe about 15m's accross, did feel the back slip a little, But i had enough momentum to get through. Also a rocky bottom.

Also done a fair few that have been up to the top of the front of the bonnet and there were no problems.

Dont think i will every attempt a crossing like the one lapping the windscreen again because its pretty risky.. But the ones that just get to the bottom of the bonnet feel fairly safe.

you are not going to be able to drive a suzuki through 1500mm of flowing water.

Would a body lift, suspension lift and 33" tyres help?

It'd get the body out of the water a bit more hence more room for water to flow under the car?

mine is lots more capable then a jimny and floats when the water reaches the top of the doors. (half doors)

river crossings are something to be avoided if possible when i was a kid
i saw a 3 trailer road train washed of a bridge when the water was only about 45cm deep.

this is the best way to cross deep water

they'd make it worse... thats more air down low...

puddles i used to drive with 215/75r15s i started floating in on 31s. Nothing major, but it definitely felt lighter! haha kinda scary when you float out of the ruts for a sec before it touches the ground again.

i've taken out all my floor plugs so the water rushes in faster and sinks me quicker. Prolly not the best idea for a jimny with carpet interior and cloth seats though.

dont even try, jimnys float, away, down the river, then sink.

you cant even get the water half way up the doors before it floats. they seal very very well, and then the water starts to come in from everywhere!!!!

This is probably the deepest river crossing I've ever done and I got the feeling about halway through she was trying to float.

Not when a good idea depending on how deep, what about the ecu and other electrics?

I have had mine floating before(80mm lift 235's)....it was very deep non-flowing water...water over the bonnet again...back end picked up and started wondering... but i still drove out the other side and no water come in the cab

And then there was this crossing i did when i was still new to 4wding....that water is moving rather fast and she was still a stocker at that time...only had it 2month's or something



I think the low COG and small tyre's are the only reason i didn't float away...

That one over the Mobong? I live in Coffs and camp out at the Nymboida often. That crossing has a few little holes to get people feeling unstuck, but have driven it through with the vit no worries.

You missed a heap of tracks around Coffs too, lol.

Yep that's Mobong Falls. We were only in Coffs for 2 days of wheeling before moving onto Surfers' and only had limited info on the area, you're very lucky to live up there it's a beautiful place.

took on nolans brook (youtube it) up cape york without much hassle, had a car in front with a rope attached in case of trouble i didnt want to be sticking around for long. took some pretty decent deep water without current quite well. just gotta take it really slow once you got a bit of momentum just to stop the wheels from digging you in and you should be sweet.

You should not have too many issue in the Vic High Country in summer. At the moment most of the rivers are at their lowest levels for years. Common sense prevails, if you can't walk across it don't drive it. We have done many club outings and crossed a lot of rivers in Sierras and Jimny's.
