ok so I haven't yet dedicated a thread to my problem until now. I am at my witts end.
This problem is doing my head in and I need to sort it out asap.
My g16B vitara is having an intermittent idle problem.
It randomly decides to idle very low. Happens quite alot sometimes and then hardly ever other times.
I.E it will drop down to stalling point and the check engine light come up on the dash due to low idle.
I pull codes and I get nothing.
Now what i've done to fault find
1) cleaned IAC valve 3 times
2) cleaned AFM 3 times
3) spark plugs changed
4) filters changed
5) reset computer
6) checked fuel pressure
When I first start the car cold it runs fine. Starts to warm up and it starts randomly faulting.
When I say randomly I mean, I can drive for 2 hours straight (start stop) fine....all of a sudden I will stop and the idles drop. next set of lights it will idle fine.
The idles vary. Sometimes it will idle about 700rpm and others 200<RPM.
If I remove the leads whilst running the motor does what it should and runs like crap.
Now before you say take it to a mechanic and get a pro to do it. I left it at a shop and the car made a liar out of me ran perfect.
Then I was informed its $90 p/h to fault find...the fact that its very random could see me spending a lot of money on it.
So can anyone make any suggestions?

I sprayed wd-40 on all the vaccum hoses whilst the car was running. Made no change. All hoses seem in good condition and not perished.
I know the exhaust is buggered. Possibly cat OS blocked and causing it?

get your exhaust fixed put in new vac hoses so u know they are fine and clean out the air filter and give the afm a good clean out with the proper air flow meter cleaner if thats still causing you trouble ide be looking at fuel filters or even injectors maybe?

mines started doing this since my exhaust got a leak in it (only small, but its there) - im assuming that the small hole is sending the wrong info back to the computer. Its not really bothering me though as it only seems to do it when the engine is on the cold side (5-15mins after startup) - after its warmed up theres no problem.

All brand new filters and made no change. This includes air and fuel.
Cleaned the afm numerous times with contact cleaner. Good stuff.
Plenty of coolant. I just changed it.
Throttle body water jacket?

Coolant runs through the throttle body which can become blocked. This will cause erratic idling.

Spark plug leads don't fail intermittently.
You need to spray all the vacuum hoses with an ether product, something like 'Ezy Start' or 'Start Ya Bastard'. This will make the revs pick up if there is a leak.
Have you cleaned all around the throttle butterfly and into the intake manifold as well? Does the throttle butterfly close properly?

Could a cracked exhaust manifold cause this?
Haven't checked as I have the heat plate on still. But could this be playing with the 02 sensor?
How do I check the egr?
Cheers Steve

Pull it apart & clean it, I've seen Jim's & swift's have intermittent idle problem's from EGR....

I have cleaned intake hose thingo. Cleaned the butterfly all seemed normal however, I only have a rough idea of what normal look like. Seems to close flush.
I sprayed the hoses today with carb cleaner but it was hard to tell if the revs changed. Will starting fluid make a very noticeable change in revs?

Carb cleaner, wd40 and whatever else doesn't work. You need the ether as it's highly combustible. It is a spray just as the others and the revs will pick up by 2-500rpm depending on the leak. Yes, it is very noticable

Did you wiggle hoses while spraying? Have you looked into the EGR yet?

Where about is the egr sorry?
It really is intermittent. Went for a drive then and it was perfect. Maybe its temperature related?

Ok. so this is clearly a common problem, mine also does this. Not all the time, and its not temperature dependant, mine does it sometimes when its stone cold, and other time after its been driven for hours and hours...
My next thing on the To do list is Change the O2 Sensor.
Tried
-Plugs (checked gapping)
-Leads
-Dizzy Cap
-Changing all the Filters.
-Servicing using different oil.
-Temperature Sensors
-Oil Pressure Sensor
-checked for vacum leaks etc....
