maybe the dude was talking about 2stroke mowers. i dont know how well a 98 octane fuel would burn mixed with oil. key words being I DONT know, i would simply propose that a different fuel may require a differnt type or mix of oil.
all fuels have ethnol in them its the percentage that changes
ethnol dosent eat away seals, but it will destroy old hoses that are already worn out.
this i do know. better fuel(95-98) does give more power and more fuel economy (best benefit when tuned for). whether the cost outways the benefit is up to the driver. this was something i have personally tested myself not some random study.
my past experiences showed me efi wise if your car was made with 91 in mind expect a resable gain with 95 but from there a marginal if any gain with 98.
usualy it comes down to if you think that extra distance or power is worth the cost and for alot of people the answer is no. in my case for what i use the car for i believe the cost was well worth it.
i would sugest guys if you arent sure try it for yourselves. with the (95-98)
thats how i got my results not by taking someone elses word for it then looking silly afterwards.

If you can get a hold of a DEF(AUST)5695A there is some tech in there... ( I think that publication is upto Bravo or Charlie these days but it was the Alpha when i was in)
We had VW powered fire fighting pumps, in the beginning fuel cut off taps started blocking up, the rubber inside would swell up and block the line. Taps were swapped out for modern units and worked fine. After a few months we had numerous pumps with fuel getting into the sump. I'm not sure the exact issue here as I wasn't around when this happened, but it was traced to a rubber seal somewhere deteriorating and letting fuel into the oil... A RODEM(NFI what it stands for these days) was raised and the investigation showed higher octane fuels were the cause.. Returning to 91 octane we had no problems.. It is interesting that this doesn't happen in other VW's though. Maybe these static motors were built differently.
When I say cheap motors, think along the lines of cheap 50cc two strokes in dodgy weed eaters and mowers... I dont see an issue with a suzuki motor if it has the correct grade fuel lines...

You still need to modify the timing, most Zuks don't have any kid of knock sensor or adaptive timing algorithm.

My bike owners manual says E10 is fine, havent checked the vit
I also call BS on the melting seals thing, the mini still has all its 1968 fuel hoses and other rubber parts all immersed in 98ron Vpower loveliness, no leaks or other problems
Remember some brands of 95ron are made 95ron by a higher ethanol content, with may damage some rubber stuff

BZZZZZZZZZZ Wrong answer. BP ultimate is ethanol free.
The amount of bullshit in this whole thread is quite humorous.

I have been meaning to go and get a sample of that shit and do some tests on it to see how much ethanol and water they are actually putting in their tanks.

I dunno, even before Today Tonight waged war on ethanol years ago fuel (even super) had ethanol in it in varying amounts as part of the refining process
only trace amounts though, nothing like 5 or 10%

it is easy to test for. i dunno about the testing shit ball does, but to test for alcohol ya just need a jar, some fuel and a bit of water.

Mine pings big time if i don't run it on any thing other than 98RON from BP and it some times throw's a engine light if i put 'Gull' fuel...

Ethanol test
That is close to how I test for ethanol. I have some tricky dye that bind itself to the water/ethanol and turns the lower sample bright blue. Happens near instantly, not like the video where it takes time.

They are allowed up to 1% under the current legislation (I think) before the bowser must be marked as having ethanol in it. This is only to allow for cross contamination during shipping.
The MSDS for BP Ultimate lists it as ethanol free. The documentation submitted to NSW parliment, regarding fuel properties when NSW were pushing to have a mandatory ethanol content in fuel also state that BP Ultimate is free from ethanol.
There was quite a bit of misinformation being sprouted about ALL fuel in NSW has to have ethanol. This isn't the case and there are exceptions to the legislation.
How was today tonight confirming ethanol content? If they were just doing a water test, then there are flaws they are probably to stupid to work out. The only definitive way would be with a gas spectrometer and I doubt they would be smart enough to go and find someone with one of those and spend the cash required.

I use Gull Premium 95Ron all the time, never had a problem with it... but there is a trick i use... if i get good fuel, meaning no problems with it, from one pump in particular, i stick to that pump, so at Gull, i use only pump 1 or 3, hehe...

i stand corrected and humbled my mistake.
in regards to my coment on efi and using 95 you dont have to change the timing to get good results as computer will allow for this however i do not believe most car ecu's are "flexible" enough to get a cost effective benefit from 98 if they are tuned for 91

i thought only kids in mcdonalds playgrounds ate rubbers, if high octane fuels are eating seals how do they catch them? maybe they club them while their sleeping. Oh hang on how would they hold the club?
