I have carpeted the inside of my roof with marine carpet. it WAS glued on buy spray contact cement. done as instructions..

issue is everytime it hits 40+ deg the glue melts and carpet falls off. any ideas how to fix this'd issue? or how its "ment" to he done?

i had that happen in a shitty holden astra i drove... i ended up buying some silicone and pumping that under the liner... never came off again after that.

we had the same problem on our camper trailers with the vinyl sticking to the floor cause they are a hard floor the vinyl spends most of its time upside down and the floor gets roasting hot cause its ally. so now we have to shut the shed and put heat lamps on the job a good half and hour before you want to spray. then we have to spray very evenly and let it go tacky under the heat lamps almost leave it for 15mins. now we dont have issues with it. before the moisture in the air would affect it. you might need to use a different glue we use anchor weld it seems to go alright nearly impossible to pull carpet off once it is stuck down.

There are different grades of spray contact. I use the High heat variant, even in SE QLD roof temperatures hit amazing highs. The worst product you can use is the shit in spray cans. May as well use silicone spray. Then normal grade spray contact, and then is the Hi temp sprayable contact, whidh is what you need. That should hold in even extreme heat, and if that's what you have used it will be either your application, or the surface condition.

What sort? many years of glueing trim to mdf taught me most spray adhesive is utter shit, 3m do a high temp in a spray can that is good, might not be good enough though

i used selies spray adhesive not the cheep stuf...

any one know where i can buy the good stuff? i spent a few hours today with no luck.

the only gear to use is the 3M stuff that shep suggested, 3M foam fast or the commercial grade gear.

i couldn't get the 3M stuff so i grabbed a can of the selleys spray glue from bunnings when i was doing my drawers & it was useless. would only be good for arts & craft. liquid nails worked a tread once spread out & left to tack off.

you can but a rubber wheel that fits into your cordless drill chuck and it takes the glue of so easy, i used it on a jet ski and could believe how easy it was

Something I thought of too was the carpet itself. Are you using unbacked or really soft carpet? If it has a firm backing it won't stick as well regardless of the grade of spray glue.

the back of the carpet is quite ruff...

what about a tube or 2 of sikaflex??

in that situation i'd use liquid nails before sikaflex

i was impress how well it took to the glossy finish of the form ply i used after just a quick scuff with sandpaper, on one of the side infill lucky dip panels trying to trim back & remove the excess carpet after it had set was a bitch of a job due to how well it stuck... basically destroyed the small sections i was trying to remove, it came up eventually but had to pull like fuck & use a scraper.

it's dirt cheap at less than $5 a tube & goes along way when applying with a caulking gun & spreading it out. give it a shot on a small test section, i think you'll be surprised.

seriously why fuck around with construction adhesive when for the same price as sika you can get
a 3M product that is made to do what ya want.
