Hey guys, just hit 1000 K's roughly on my rebuilt G16B vit engine... So time to dump the running in oil and put new stuff in...

What oil do I want to run?

I am hoping I dont get 5 different answers lol..

get better, there is no such thing as too high a quality oil

I use motul turbolite 4100, my engine has 305000km and blows no smoke and uses no oil, cheap insurance I reckon

i have been using diesel oil in all my cars for the last 10 years, few rebuilds, na stroker and boost on na engines, high k engines with low comp and new cars. never had a problem, last engine i tore down after a rebuild (kissed a piston, broke a valve) the bearings looked like new.

diesel oil is designed to work under higher loads, temps and with a dirty fuel.

when me and a mate built his WRX motor with forged pistons, we were told to run only mineral oil for the first 20k. does this apply to most other engines or was it only because of the forged pistons?

that is said to all sj413s all over the world, not specific. but yes use the best.

i checked and the the vitara manuals say the same... its pretty dam specific giving the temperature ranges and what oil to run =) lol

given perth's average temp is 18.6*C (average min of 12.7 and max 24.5), peak maximums of 44*C and peak lows of 0*C i'd say 20w50 is spot on.

i run 10w 60 penrite fully synthetic, both zooks like it thus far.

is there any truth at all that, by changing the type (eg mineral oil to semi or fully synthetic) can damage/ruin the seals? and isnt good for the engine in general. once running a certain type, it should be stuck with?

when we do recond engines at work the engineers that rebuild them have always said to run a mineral oil in them for at least the first 10000klm. something to do with some of the additives in the synthetic oils can cause glazing of the bores (I'm just a mechanic though, not a scientist, so i just do as I'm told)

I'mwith am above poster I run diesel 15 40 in mine but if you want better than that go straight to a good synthetic oil and stick with it

no, the seals usually only last 150k anyway

what about fully synthetic diesel oil?
