Has anyone cut one open? Or know of a brand that has an insert rather than non servicable wetleg style?

Have recently had success (read engineerable) making custom length coilovers from stock ae86 struts. Hoping to be able to acheive something similar with a GV strut. As there doesnt appear to be a real option in terms of something longer.

Not making a coilover but by either cutting the top off, threading the body for a gland nut and finding an insert of the correct length. Or possibly extending the strut body which if done correctly is apparently engineerable (don't ask I still won't beleive that it's possible until everything's been signed)

In the early stages of research at the moment to see if actually feasible...

Mine is a '99 and I'm hopefully putting in a lift kit next week. I'd be happy to sacrifice the old struts for a good cause if it helps.

The more different struts we can get the better. The Dobinsons struts in mine have a removable top cap. But they are new so i aint chopping them up.

I have a set of lovells we can play with.
One is blown and the other is fine.
Depending on when you want them, I will be moving to Melbourne in 5 weeks so we can sort it out then.

Be moving to the north/north east but will be in Geelong for the first month or so. Definitely have to catch up for a beer and wheel.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread cause I have a couple of struts sitting in the garage waiting to be hacked up ... Any takers, Shakes?

I saw a pair of struts the other week on a LWB Vitara wreck that appear to take inserts, didn't really pay that much attention to them apart from they were OME/Monroe yellow... but weren't OME's
