Hi all,
Just wonderingif any one has had trouble bleeding their clutch on a 2.0 l vitara 97 model. Finally got it all back together, new clutch put in. I can get all gears except reverse, it just grinds. I have adjusted the play at the pedal and it is maxed out. I have bleed the clutch several times with no luck, thought there might be a secret??
Any thoughts, i dont want to pull the box off if i can avoid it.

Are you gravity bleeding or pressure ( ie, pushing clutch in then cracking the nipple)

did you put a new clutch kit in it?

there are 2 different thrust bearings available as mentioned in this thread.

considering you only unbolt the 2 bolts on the slave to do the clutch (not cracking any fluid lines) , i suspect you had a issue before replacing the clutch.

If this is the case and you had a similar issue before replacing it , i would be looking at the actual clutch pedal . Where the clevis of the master cylinder attaches to pedal there is a clevis pin and where this goes through the pedal there is a bush . From my experience in the past , the bush wears out , then the hole in the pedal elongates and also wears the clevis pin , giving far too much free travel before the pedal actuates the master cylinder. hence the clutch does not disengage fully.

Yeah put a new clutch in it and i am bleeding it by pumping the pedal. Gonna have a look at the pedal today, Cheers Fellas

Just for info, pulled the box off and what to you know, the new throw out bearing was 6 mm shorter then the old one. Rang CBC and gave them the old bearings serial number and got a new one sent up and this one is 5 mm longer then the old one. Put it in and bang, got heaps !!!!!!!!! of clutch.....Buyer beware
