Alrighty the time has come to get some new 31" tyres.

I have my heart set on the Simex Extreme Trekkers. Now the only issue is where do I get them without mega bucks. I'm in Bendigo central Vic and was quoted locally $430 a tyre!!!

I have been searching for ages and seen a few posts of people buying them from www.fourbys.com.au for as little as $300 a tyre for 32's.

Is this the best spot in Oz to get these or am I missing something?

Any help on good suppliers is MUCHLY appreciated. I want my ET's Now!

I'd much prefer the Simex's unless the Silverstones were considerably cheaper ie under $200

Silverstones are a better tyre than the simex.
Better grip.
Better bagging.
Better on road manners.
Better price.

Silverstone's would also suit a Suzuki better as the are slightly softer in the sidewall. When we had Simexs on our Vitara at 6psi they didn't even look down. Although you would probably get more life out of a Simex.

The old batch of silverstones were undersized, but the new batch are spot on for size. My 33's measure 33inches. However I remember McWilly had a set of 33's which measured around the 35 inch mark

True about the simex's being physically an inch bigger for their side wall size.

On the topic of the silverstones, I've had to have 3 of the 5 that i purchased replaced due to small splits in the sidewalls. The set i have on the zook now are awesome and i've had no troubles with them at all. I would get them again for my next set of tyres

Thanks for tbe replies. The Silverstones are looking good. I priced them up today for $260 a tyre but the lady I spoke with said they are illegal for onroad use? News to me? Anyone shed some light on this. Are simex roadlegal?

Did.nt know they were cross ply.
A car with factory radials I think must use radials.
So she could be right.

I would go as legal as possible.
Things are that way now.

Federal Couragias are cheap, road legal, reasonable road handling.

Obviously no idea about the other states but the relevant laws might be worth checking out. You'd bloody well hope a tyre shop knows them though!

if the tyre wasnt legal for road use it would not be sold in this country by reputable and long standing tyre importers. They would be facing law suits left right and centre.

The application may be illegal in your case but the tyre never will be. It has stamped on the side in its serial number DOT meaning it is legal. Some dodgy arsed importers were selling tyres that were designed for a horse drawn cart years ago.

Now if you have four bias ply tyre on your car = legal
four radial tyres on your car = legal
two bias ply on front two radial on back = legal
radial and bais ply on same axle = illegal and fucking stupid

I spent 13 years in the tyre game and was doing technical inspection for Simex, hankook, westlake, cheng shin, maxxis and PIRELLI for the qld distributor.

Contact the state distributor and tell them what the tyre store said ( not her the shops policy) and tell them to deal with the silly fuckers. This shit burns my goat.

I went for the cheapest rubber I could find locally Maxxis Buckshots for about $260 each, reviews sounded ok. I didnt want to pay $300 for anything else. Not that the buckshots are as agressive as the trekker. When you say 31's fot the Vit what would you be talking in metric?

Righto fellas got onto a local supplier who can do them for $230 each.

I go in there today to order the Silverstone Extremes and he was going right off how bad they are on road and that as soon as he fits them he won't have me coming back saying there no good. He kept rambling saying you can't drive on the black stuff with them and just kept going on how shit the Silverstones are.

Can I ask a big favor and grab someones mobile number who runs the Silverstone extremes so I can have a quick chat about the tyres and how they behave on the road? If I order them it will need to be before 1pm so I get them tomorrow.
Feel free to post your experience with them onroad.

I'm thinking I Need to tell the fella to harden up and order my tyres.

Call him a dickhead, walk out and order them somewhere else if he doesnt want to sell them to you. He is probably trying to talk you into something a bit more pricey.

I've had the simex's on road from new until bald and the only noticable negative is alot of road noise. Otherwise drove straight and did the job. Would buy them again.

Can't speak for the Silverstone copies but they should be a better offroad tyre for a lightweight zook as the simex's are a bit too stiff in the sidewall. I would doubt their road manners are quite as good though seeing as they have larger voids. Plenty have run them on road without drama though, don't listen to people that think all terrains are the only tyre for a 4wd
