Destroyed the Electric fan and AC clutch yesterday .

Fan - Is there any aftermarket fans that are close enough in size and mountings that will suit. Obviously, I can refit the plug.

AC Compressor - Went through stages yesterday. Only worked some of the time. Later it started to burn the belt so I turned it off. Later in the day it started zzz'ing from 4,000 RPM up sounding like a turbo spooling but eventually turned into a groan. I am assuming its the clutch at this stage, but will do a little testing later. Can the clutch assembly be removed and replaced on these compressors, or does that mean a new compressor?

AC comp, Clutches come off with one bolt if you lock the outer section in a vice or something. Bit tricky to hold it. Unsure about finding another one though.

Sound like the compressor is abit shit though.. Seizeing up so the clutch slips, heating up and melting your belt..

I have 2 fan's here to chose from, 2nd hand $30 each..

The front bearing's in the a/c pump's do let go, as any would, I have see the bearing seize & destroy the front plate on the compressor, both time's I have fitted a 2nd hand unit with new clutch & bearing.....

I have just pulled the radiator, and removed the clutch. As I suspected - clutch and bearing disintegrated. Can I get a replacement clutch and bearing assembly? Are they specific to Jimny or are they fairly stsandard?
ANd of course, where and likely cost?

Run some string round the pully's then measure said string, that's the length you need, then just add 4pk to the front of said measurement...

no Jim came out without A/c, so the size you want is unknown..

Ok, string is a good idea. Was going to use a sewing tape, but that would get a slightly longer measurement.

Ok, so last week I took the whole assembly - pulley, clutch plate to Mr Cool and they removed and refit the bearing, and provided me with a new coil and resurfaced the pulley and clutch plate.

I wanted to do it all in situe so I did not have do de/regas at extra cost. To remove and refit the coil meant an external circlip. Straight circlip pliers were useless because they were too long and fouled on the radiator. Also, using a headlamp and mirror, I just could not see anything. The coil was 20mm deep, and the bent nose on any standard bent pliers are only 15mm. I purchased a pair of $13 SuperCrap pliers and heat bent them yesterday in the vice with my MAPP kit. (I'll post a pic of this some time). These worked a charm and with a bit of reverse mirror practice, had the old coil off, and the new one on.

So, now my air con works again. I also notice the engine reving/surging is gone, so I think this was caused by the AC compressor missbehaving due to the dead bearing.

Unfortunately, the zzz'ing sound is still there and I suspect its the idler pulley pulley. I might squirt water at each pulley one at a time and see if the sound changes.

Anyone know which its likely to be?

Actualy now that I think about it, I recall my old (67) holden having a very minor, and permanent zz'ing sound in the power steering pump. This is much louder though and audible by anyone nearby with their window down!

edit: Just as a reminder - Its only audible above the engine noise above ~2,500 revs.

Yes, thats why I mention it. It was never this loud though. Sounds like some weird turbo.

Confirmed today that it is the Idler pulley.

Anyone know if this bearing is replaceable and perhaps what the specs/part number would be

I replaced mine with NULINE EP158 from a Holden Cruze ..... same same but cheaper.

Perhaps I have the wrong name. Its the adjuster/tensioner pulley. I didn't realise there was another idle pulley.

How bout that one

Its the one on the aircon belt that adjusts the belt tension (on a M13A engine).

Yep thats the one.

Was at my dad's. He got out his stethescope with midified screw driver and we did some sound and rev tests. Confirmed ot had to be the tensioner. Makes a whizzing sound from about 2,500 RPM upwards and just gets louder.

So the one above is what you need, just ask for 2002 holden cruze one (M15A engine).

Same thing (size), and cheaper.

Or you might be able press the fucked bearing out of the pulley and find one the same size from a bearing place.

On the blower to Repco tomorrow for pulley and front shocks.

I'd love to get some Bilsteins but can't wait that long. I think both are now shot. Just have to go back to HQ rears and remove the dust cover unless I can find a 500mm upside down mono quickly.

Well I took the tensioner pulley off, drilled a hole and removed the seal, washed it out with kero, repacked it, washed it again with degreaser, repacked it, reinstalled the seal, glued the hole and reinstalled the pulley. The noise is still there but a little quieter I think.



Will have to do till I can get a replacement.

Total different to the Cruze one. The cruze one fits on a non VV M13A without power steering for certain.
