When you go to the wreckers take a tape measure with you. You'll need to choose a seat that isn't too wide otherwise it will be a PITA to fit.

I have MK1 in mine but plan on replacing them with MK2, even have provision for a harness. MK3 are easier to come across these days but aren't quite as wrap around.

The only issue with copies is that the manufacturing quality is crap.

There are reasons why expensive seats are expensive seats, and it's often due to the quality of the recliner mechanism, oh, and often that little ADR thing.

I've seen heaps of cheap recliners that have scary floppy recliner mechanisms. I thought I remember reading somewhere that Bride purchase their recliner mechanisms from Recaro (could be wrong?) Cheap recliners with lots of play in them from new worry me - what happens in 5 years when you're in a crash and the recliner mechanism fails?

Recaro have an infinite recliner mechanism that doesn't creep, (not a ratchet) and a separate tilt latch that does not effect the recliner position.

Recaro also have gold after sales support. They will service/adjust/modify Recaro's that are many years old.

I would match rather spend money on OEM seats from a wrecker (where you can assess their quality and condition) rather than buy something off the web and find out when it arrives they are made from cheese and fencing wire.

As an aside though - if you are modding seat mounts make sure you have adequate problem solving skills and fabrication experience. A seat is only as good as its mounts. I have seen seats tekscrewed to the floor of cars more than once.

But that is exactly right, you pay for what you get. I'll see what my budget is and decide on an OEM seat or a GOOD aftermarket seat.

for sure - that's a lovely piece of design, but it is designed for the Recaro bolt pattern IIRC. An OEM seat won't share that pattern so you'll have to adapt it, which is where you need to be careful to ensure you are retaining adequate strength.

One of the sierra's I seen in Sydney when I was hunting for one, wasn't even mounted to the floor. Said he had taken it wheeling a few times and was his daily. The passenger seat had sockets to level out the rail on the front and the seat was tied to the belt clip thingo with rope!!

Currently in my zuk, one side of the driver's seat is bolted in with the proper bolts, the other side (closest to the door) is gaff-taped to the floor 'cause the rail isn't as wide as my old seat

i brought a pair of autotechnica seats from repco, they were 250$ for the pair. i havent mounted them but they seem reasonable comfortable to sit in. anybody know what the tsor seat rails are worth for a swb vitara? and also what slides will i need to use? are the after market seat rails made lower then the factory position? cheers guys

I haven't tested the autotechnia rails yet. You would use the vitara rails.

Other than that, my shitbox AE82 comes in at a close 2nd.

For some reason old cars are the most comfy.

I've got swift GTI sears in my Vit, they are mounted on the Vit rails.
The inner rails (on the tunnel) need one hole drilling and they bolt on.
The outer rails need a 'leg' making up similar to the original Vit seats. If any one is interested let me know and I can post up some pics.

Actually R33 skyline seats are damn nice for long drives - and the drivers seat has a decent recline mechanism, adjustable bucket height & angle, adjustable lumbar support, and adjustable side bolsters so they are comfy no matter what your size is.
