most of the tents are 1200x1400m & open out to 2400x1400mm, hence the side opening on a 5' long trailer

with my kitchen on the back (mkii maybe on its way ) then having cover on the rear would be useful and then being able to get in and out while staying dry makes sense too

If I ever use the thing again I would have the car unhitched before opening it up anyway

Some tall skinny 16" LJ rim/tyre or similar.

i think i'll run the full size spare just to have a bit of weight in it, the tent top won't weigh a great deal even with the ply lid, it's got about a 600kg spring pack in it? spare bolted to the floor in the back left corner/fuel across the front for ballast & the back right hand corner for storage/jack stands.

i have a heap of form ply left over from my drawer build, could divide off the front section it's wide enough to run up to 6 of those 10l ones side by side across the box, could even have a combo of water/fuel.

Most of them have both ends opening up. We use the non-cantilever end that's under the canopy in the photo of mine. The reasoning behind having mine fold out like it does over the passenger side wheel was:

1) It makes it easy to pull up on the side of the road, flip the tent open and zonk out if you're tired when travelling. Works well - I've done it!

2) I wanted the lid hinges on the driver's side so that I can access the trailer when pulled up on the side of the road. Setting the tent up the way it is means that any load on the cantilever part of the tent floor is pulling up on the hinges not the latches, so no chance of anyone flipping the latches and collapsing the tent on me for a laugh

3) Wanted access to back door of Zook (hardtop) when still hooked up but tent open - hence not opening out over drawbar.

4) Wanted access to rear door of trailer (kitchen bench setup) so couldn't go that way, plus would be less stable.

As it's set up the tyre and wheelarch makes good steps into the tent too, and you can store your shoes on the wheelarch rather than getting the tent dirty. Works well for our use.

Trailer's looking pretty tuff with those shoes Gus. I don't carry a spare unless I'm going somewhere that I need to be totally self sufficient in which case I strap one to the roof. I could use the Jim spare in an emergency too.

You should be able to get the picture from this, mount spring bases on a bracket and fit to drawbar. Fit some fibreglass rod to bases or some cheapo aerials. Have some cloth stitched up so the rod can slide in. And some type of stoppers onto the car side lining up with the rods so when you turn it doesn't rub on the back of car.

Put a mudflap on a sierra without that metal bracket and the mudflap will be holeier than jesus.

Probably easier to just fit redneck ute (truck) mudflaps to the tow rig, and removing them when you want to wheel

Thats easy fixed by not using shadecloth or the fact i dont drive a sierra with the exhaust pointing straight onto it

Cost me $90 from Outdoor Auto. The quick release mount is pretty cool and an extra $25. There's a lockable version too.

I wish I knew about these before I put the dual jerrys on my camper trailer. Way cool, and mount it in all sorts of places.

Gay but functional, IMO it's an easy and potentially cheap alternative to the trailer stone guard. Pipe welded to the car's trailer hitch, a pipe that slides into it, R clips, $12 mudflaps. She'll be right.

I actually took my trailer for a little test drive along the freeway, and it's not bad at all. Well not as bad as what I expected at least.



Also, I picked up my tailgate kitchen. It's pretty neat... Buuut that age old saying crept into my head, If you want something done the way you want it, do it yourself!!
He's changed the design somewhat and isn't exactly what I expected so I'll have to change a few things at a later date. He's changed the ply top that he was going to use to something else he had which was slightly thicker which ment I had to modify the rear crossbar on the fkn trailer. I EVEN DREW A FKN DIAGRAM AND GAVE HIM MEASUREMENTS!! I think he thinks I don't know how to use a tape measure. I'm a bit pissed about it but can't complain too much, It didn't cost me anything. Besides lending him a hand build a frikin deck.
