Hey guys. Went to the beach a couple of weeks ago and have cleaned underneath as best as possible straight after I got back. Want to oil it all this weekend, what's the best oil to use and where do I get it?

No oil.
If you've cleaned off salt/sand, and you have no exposed metal then call it a day.

The only liquid treatment I use is a bit of lanolin spray in cavities such as inside the doors and up inside the chassis rail.

After beach underbody wash is worth the effort but depends where you went beach driving. Has some sort of oily stuff in the water. A lanolin, fish oil, or even engine oil mixed with kero are good rust prevention options but best done before as opposed to after. All the body seams are salt traps and should receive extra attention when cleaning or oiling.

I used Lanotec (Kiwi KY), not sure if it helped much though.

Hammerite Underbody Seal. Always worked for me in the UK where you got salt on the roads all through Winter. Big black tin of brush on black gunk. Drys to a rubbery seal, but maintains a bit of oily-ness. Came as a spray on as well for getting inside the doors and cavitys.

In my opinion oil or any of that stuff that has been talked about is useless, it will encourage salty sand to stick to it and it will create a horrible mess. Just keep it clean, wash it well, park it on concrete and crawl under it with your diving goggles on and flush all the salt and sand away.

Yep...I was told an old bushy trick(funny, bushy, lives no where near the ocean) that bi-carb soda mixed with water and then sprayed onto the under body will neutralize the effect of the salt. Turns white and then you hose or high pressure wash it off 8)

After beach, go to your nearest fresh water creek and drive through that. A full bath gets into places you miss with the hose.

We use a kero /old engine oil mix in the spray gun before we go to the sand.
It doesn't dry sticky , but it sticks to the body work and gets up into a lot of the cavitys.

Idea being that any exposed metal has a coating on it to protect it from the salt.

Works very well , but is not a long lasting treatment.

Wading up to bonnet depth is the best way to get the sand off afterwards.

On multiday trips we try and clean the trucks as much as we can daily to stop the sand building up and setting to concrete

Old oil is Carcinogenic, better to just use really cheap Kmart oil, but otherwise yeah I think this is a great, cheap rust deterrent.
