I'm trying to figure out why my steering feels 'weird'.

The best way I can describe it is... when I turn right it feels normal but when I turn left it feels like the body of the car is rolling a lot more and getting on a huge angle for no reason.

I've replaced all the bushes on my front left and right springs which didn't fix the issue. (flexing feels firmer though)

I do have a noticeable oil leak from my front right knuckle which I have a new seal and bearing kit for (but not king pins) but haven't had a chance to chuck it in yet.

When I was replacing the bushes I noticed that my front right shock absorber when compressed didnt push back out at all, even slowly. I had to pull it back into size myself. It's an ironman shocky, only a few months old from a +50mm Ironman Suspension lift kit.


Can a shocky cause this kind of steering difference between left and right?

If so, would it be worth pulling each of the shockies tomorrow and if any of them are shagged replacing the pair with one of the following ?

Front Hiace Shocks Gabriel 81147

(Just out of curiosity - If I had any problems with my kingpins - what sort of adverse effects would it cause?)

lots of shocks dont spring back, be more worried if one feels easier to push in and out that the other

lots of bodyroll usually comes from the rear

But Scrawn, it's got to drive fast, handle like it's on rails, don't need to change gears going up a hill while towing a trailer and sit easy at 100kph+ while on road but be really slow off road. Don't you know that Scrawn.

Ever since I semi-layed the car on it's side and had all the weight of the vehicle on the front right wheel it's had some issues.

I think we're both smart enough to know I'm not expecting the performance my GV gives me on the road to match that of my Sierra so I don't know why you would bring it up apart to patronise me - which you've done - congrats.

In the last four weeks my Sierra has been over some decent tracks 6 times... how about yours ?

Being able to keep enjoying driving it is exactly what I want to do. Not being able to take it far works directly against that though.

Not only a jab at my past efforts to confirm my gearing purchase was worthwhile but also a jab at my efforts to ensure my vehicle is safe to drive... well done... like shooting fish in a barrel...

My car can barely drive straight on a flat road and I'm asking too much of it? The moment yours gets a scratch it's back on the trailer and buffed and polished the next day.

Scorpudude, how about doing 15 minutes of investigation?

A) Swap the shocks left to right and see if it changes anything

B) See if the LHF shock self extends - as Royce pointed out, not all shocks self extend.

C) jack each front wheel up and check for play

D jack both front wheels up and check the steering feels the same left to right.

I cant say exactly what the go is, but I would be looking at steering links and rods etc, check the kingpins, and chekc the rim.
