Hey all,
So yesterday I went 4x4ing, pretty bumpy, I don't know if that rattling could have caused something, but I drive it home fine, no problems.
Wake up this morning to go to work and I press in the clutch put it in gear one and turned the key and the car jumped toward as if the clutch wasn't pushed in at all.
Spoke to 2stroker and I tried tightening the clutch cable but that did nothing. He thinks it might be inside the clutch that something might have broke.
So just wondering what all you guys think, and how hard is it to get into the clutch and find out the problem. I got Thursday-Sunday to figure it out and won't need to drive anywhere so any pointers would be great.

Check the entire clutch cable for fraying. mine just had the plastic on it broken and it was still together, but it wasn't doing a thing so ended up replacing it and it was all good.

To check if it was the cable, I got a pinch bar and pushed it between the case and the clutch arm on the bell housing and leavered it to see if the clutch worked.

Well I press the clutch and it moves the lever thing.

So did mine clutch still didn't work.

Use a pinch bar - it should move a bit then feel like that's it but then you push it a bit more harder and it should move some more - that part is your clutch working.

Did you check your cable?

I've had mud glue the disc to the flywheel. No clutch, straight drive, start in gear, change gears rev matching.

Yeah I did that around the yard but didn't wa t to risk driving like that from my friends to my house. It was pretty muddy but also very wet I don't think the mud would have stuck them together this time. Also it was more sand than mud

So I'm at work at the moment and won't get to work on my car at my mates until Thursday. So just gettin ideas for now

check clutch cable for and kninks or any sought of noticable damage, check if the clutch lever moves enough to disengage. if not, theres 2 bolts, 2 nuts and the starter motor that hold the gears. plus the jack shaft to the transfer, very frustrating hhaahahahhaahhahaha but its gotta be done

Sometimes the lever on the gearbox can strip, break or come loose.

More an issue on 1.0 litres, but worth a look.

The thrust bearing in clutch can jam, too.

Hopefully just a cable related thing,
or any gear box staying in thing.

Well if it comes to pulling it apart, I got 5 days and a whole shed full of tools to help out so I should be able to get it.

Sounds like the mud/sand has jammed the clutch together. Hose through the inspection plate, timing bung.

Good idea. That worked with my old Sierra.

I just changed the clutch on my WT yesterday. I had the same symptoms as you. Turns out that two of the fingers on the pressure plate had snapped clean off and the rest where worn and generally fucked!

There are 2 things in this world that I truly loathe... The Australian Labour Party and removing gearboxes. So I replaced everything while it was off....

Irrespective of what it is... it looks like the box is gonna have to come off

Ok thanks matfan, by replace everything whilst it was off. What does this include that would need replacing?

I just bought a clutch kit and machined fly-wheel.
So that's

Clutch disk
Pressure plate
throw-out bearing
spigot bearing
machined flywheel

I didn't want to stuff around waiting for the mail man so I just bought it all from Suzi Auto for $265 all up (plus $50 deposit for the flywheel exchange)

Don't let anyone talk you into a HD clutch, after 4 years of abuse (3 of which on standard gearing) the standard clutch disk had minimal wear.
I could have gotten away with only replacing the pressure plate but I figured I might as well do it all while the gearbox was off (did I mention I hate removing the gearbox?) so my advice to you is to strip it all down before you make any purchases. Who knows, it might be something simple and cheap.

Stop teasing him Royce your just trying to egg him on haha. By anyway back to the clutch, so that kit and the flywheel include all this things, so I will just need those and tools, after I check what the problem is first.
