Hi,

I have a 88.5 sierra with a G13A motor. I thought the battery was dead so replaced it. Turns out i have a bigger issue. Dash lights and stereo works, hit the ignition and it just clicks. You can push start it and it starts and runs, you turn it off and it will start again no worries. Even take it for a run and it will start a couple hours later with no issues. But over night and its dead again, not the battery its holding charge, voltage is still 12.65.

Can anyone offer and advice? I did think maybe starter solenoid, i dont really know much about solenoids so am happy for someone to enlighten me.

yeah im having a problem starting my sierra now...doesnt start straight away but eventually it does...

my voltage was fine - 12.7 i think it was. then with car turned on it was over 14 volts so i know alternator is fine...did u test your voltage with motor on?

think my starter motor might be dodgy...or might be the cables...they look pretty shitty atm.

Its known as the dreaded clicky start and is very common on sierras a few of the other boys might chime in soon but do a search on clicky starter and ull find u can buy an upgraded wiring package. It has to do with the starter motor not getting enough power from the stock wiring

or your battery nutruel isnt connected, try that.

Sounds like a similar problem mine had. You can keep trying and trying and it eventually gets it?

I got one of Royces starter looms and havnt had a drama since!

Could ve your solenoid on you starter or your actual starter it might fix it try start it when it clicks give the stater a few taps with a hammer and try again if it starts it's stater

mine does this, give the starter solinoid a tap with a hammer, if it starts then i would say your up for a new solenoid.

Well i figured out that its the solenoid. Tap with a hammer and away we go. That will give me something to do over the long weekend.

Regardless I'd still be upgrading the loom. The voltage drop on the stock one is too high. They start like a different car after doing it.
