hey all
ok took my new car out for its first run on saturday
and its getting HOT on big power sapping up hill runs.

I listened to it boil like a kettle for about a minute on the top of one massive mother fker hill.

now it has a vit good cond radiator and viscous fan and shoud fitted, its running a high coolant mix.
I'm sort of leaning towards this maybe being a thermstat problem.
what are our thoughts on running NO thermostat in one of these motors.

my other thought is maybe the viscous fan is fucked???

specs are g16b and 3 speed auto running all the vit cooling gear.

Try putting the Sierra fan back on and see if it's better. If it is better or no different, it might be a dodgy fan I gave you

I was also thinking of making the vit fan fixed, as I dont care about the 1/8th of a hp it steals. I'd rather the flow.



anyone know what deg c the thermostat opens at?

maybe a cooler thermostat and some speed holes in it are the answer

I have a cooler thermostate so the guy at repco tells me (g13bb not sure if. It's different head, I thought they were the same), it did drop on road a little bit. I'll see if I can find the packet tomorrow. And for a bush pig, just drill some holes in it, you don't have much to lose and a thermostat is really there to regulate the temp and help it get to operating temp faster, so lazy drivers don't have to sit and wait for there car to warm up. A few 6mm holes and go for a run..... If it doesn't work buy another $20 thermostat....

thermostat does a lot more than that

if it only heats up under power for a long time and not running around the timing might be too advanced?

if its not overheating and its only boiling after you turn it off its sort of normal, remember dakdak had a 500 page thread about it that never got resolved cause he couldnt tell a straight story

hmm timing, didnt consider that.

which color wires are we bridgeing on a late 16b to get the base timing??
because Ive never checked to see what it is.
whats the base timing in deg?

bought a new thermostat today 10 deg cooler and some of that fan oil so I'll do those two as well as checking the timing, it didn't sound like it was pinging though

ok
put a new 78 deg c thermostat in with a couple of speed holes.
added 18ml of new oil to the fan and refilled rad with a 50/50 mix of anti boil and water also gave it a dose of redline water wetter.

it seems to run a little cooler now.
I managed to get it up to 94 deg last night on a run so its not boiling.


can anyone well me what the max sort of temp one of these sould get to in a vit??? Im guessing around 110deg c

and can some one tell me on a 94 vit which color wire are bridged on the diag plug to get your base timing setting??
