hi guys
im after turboing my vit.
in another threat i posted.i was told i should.be looking for a baleno motor.i was wondering if any one could point me in the right direction..
is a motor from a baleno going to fit straight into my vit and bolt strait to the box and transfer.as im interested in keeping my 4wd.i can imagine that the ignition will have to change which is ok.although will it run on my standard computer?
i also noticed that there is a 1.6 and 1.8 motor from the baleno.which will fit if either do.
any info is great info.thanks guys

the g16 and the j18 from a baleno will bolt upto the vit gearbox bell housing.

Im not sure if the clutch is compatable with the j18.

the wiring and computer are different so you will need the computer aswell.

there are also a few differences between the vit g16 and the baleno g16 which include the cooling system.

why not just grab a j20 from a vitara,

when saying the baleno g16 has a different cooling system in what way do you mean. if its a matter of piping and what not that's ok.it can be made:)although if im not mistaken off the top of my head the balino motor is mounted east west so id need new mounts made up and a different manifold?or will that fit.

Do some searching tommii - there's plenty of threads on putting Baleno G16B into sierras.

You haven't given us enough information to really help though.

Is your Vitara currently carby and you want to convert to EFI to start a turbo conversion?

Do you currently have a complete carby motor?

Engine mounts, sump and oil pickup will come from your carby motor.

Intake manifold will come from the baleno.

Exhaust manifold will be custom - there are no G16 turbo manifolds to suit a vitara.

Water pipes will be custom - the Baleno inlet manifold has no thermostat housing. If you don't want custom piping, use a Jimny inlet manifold.

as for the turbo conversion - do you have massive buckets of cash? -you'll need them to get it working reliably.

Do search and ask more targeted questions. Don't make us do all the work.

Steve.

sorry steve don't mean no disrespect or anything.i have been doing alot of research.hours of it and to be honest i didn't know about the baleno motor.so obviously not enough research.i have a 95 vitara with the g16b injected motor sohc. im looking to turbo it and only running 5psi.it was mentioned abovery about the baleno motor.i was originally looking at doing the g16b motor in mine although it would be easier to do another motor then throw it in.
im prepared to modify exhaust manifold and whatever else needs to be modified.

If you just use the block with your head, it will be a simple swap. Just like using another vit block. The Baleno head will make things difficult as everything sensors/water/intake manifold/wiring/ecu are completely different

thanks guys.
good to know.id said same block same pistons...
i think ill go the bigger injecters from the wrx with my t25 turbo and possibly a thicker head gasket. im only planning on running 5 or 6 psi.not much and as far as i can see due to plenty of research it will handle it on the standard computer..
correct me if im wrong anyone please.

Aren't the heads the same? Manifolds, distributor and cam are the differences?

Oh yeah thats what you said before. Im just unsure if you can bolt on the vit dizzy gear components to the head and if the water can be changed by using a blank plate on back of Baleno head and use vit intake manifold. I have never done/seen before.

So really, any g16b block and head can be used. The 98'+ g16b baleno will have a crank sensor in the sump and hole in the block for it, meaning sump will be different shape to the vit also. If you use a vit sump and pickup, A blanking plate will be needed for this hole in the block, to seperate the cam belt and sump oil.!

pre 98' will not have this sensor.

so pre 98is the same bottom end? please correct me if im wrong.
or will the pick up and sump still need to be changed and through only difference between pre 98 and 98 + is the banking of the sensor hole

If your using just the block and head, the sensor hole will be the only difference. Should be same pistons/crank/waterpump/main components.

all other accesories, sump, pickup, dipstick, intake manifold, dizzy, cam, etc, use yours.

If yours has PS and AC, The block bolt holes/studs are different for the mounts!! I have tried to put a vit ps mount on a baleno block. Had to customise.

-98 98+ All they changed is the ignition system. Info you dont need.
pre98=1 coil, dizzy.
98+= 2 coils, no dizzy, crank and cam sensor.
