The argolight has less argon contenet. This makes it cheaper. It is suitable for materials up to 10mm, but after that you will get better weld penetration by using argoshield. I have a cylinder of both, but most of my welding is under 8mm, so I just use the argo-light. Also 25l/min is twice what you can get away with. If you are unsure, do some test welds on a piece of flatbar. Drop the flow rate down a bit then do a weld. Keep going till you get to 10 - 8l/min, and see what the difference is.

The BOC retail price for light and universal is the same. If you have an account manager you can sometimes squeeze them for a better price on the light though. I have a customer that uses light for all his work. He does some pretty substantial fabrication and reckons there is very little difference between the 2.

Its only $10 a bottle less, but better in my pocket than theirs. Obviously the gas mixes are so close to each other there is no point varying the retail price.

I just had a look in my data book and there is about 10% more Argon in universal.
Just out of curiosity and something to make shep cry, how much do they sting you for a cylinder of argoshield.
All our gas prices up here are close to double that of the East Coast.

I'm paying $11.50 rental per month on an E Argo-light $72 for gas. E of Argoshield is $82.
And I'm paying $87 for a D of straight Argon. Not sure about rental.

Rental prices are the same Australia wide. All customers "should" be paying the same.
The retail on an E2 universal here is $181.08 An E2 of light is $173.77
The G sized cylinders have the same price for light and universal of $305.49
A D of argon is $154.57
We get absolutely raped on gas prices here. The only other option here is Air Liquide and they are dearer than BOC.

That's the excuse, but when you move the quantity of cylinders BOC does then the freight cost per crate is quite good. Even using my rates (nowhere near what BOC would pay) per crate wouldn't add that much to the price of a cylinder.

Damn the NT prices are expensive! I own my own bottles so there are no rental charges. D sized argon costs $89. E sized Argoshield costs $110.

NO BOC or Air Liquide agent will fill bottles that aren't their own.

There are regulations regarding the transport of full and empty gas cylinders. Do you have a ute, truck or trailer that you can use?

No special fixings. But if it comes loose your in the deepest of shit Don't worry about the extinguisher. Argo is inert. Its the explosive force of a bottle rupturing that does the damage.
