I have a 95 sierra and have been having troubles with a niggling vibration at around 60 km/h i have replaced rear uni's which one of seem ed realy tight so i thought i had found the problem but the vibration is still there and when i take off in 1 st gear if i put a bit of load on it as i take off the gear stick wobbles from side to side and i get a really loud grinding sound, usually this when i crap myself and back off. Any help would be great as i have replaced engine mounts, gearbox mount, steering damper, rear wheel bearings, and uni joints chasing this problem and am starting to hate the sight of my zook because i can't get in and drive it.

have you checked the uni joints in the jack shaft that runs from gearbox to transfer case?

not yet, the loud grinding sound makes me think it was a gearbox issue but if the jack shaft uni's were stuffed could that cause excessive load on the gearbox causing the grinding noise also when i have the car in 2h with the hubs unlocked i cant spin the front shaft is that normal

have a look at the locating bolt and bush in the gear shifter

In 2H with hubs unlocked you should be able to turn the front shaft.
Either your hub/s aren't disengaging or there is a transfer case problem.

I'd start with the hubs.

Yeh it was the hubs i pulled them a part and it turns out that in the past some one has had them off and the inner part that engages on the axle has come off the spring so they just stuck it in there it was even in the wrong way so there is no way that it come apart by itself so looks like my hubs have been locked in since i bought the car 2 years ago, gee i love dodgey back yard mechanics. Now to figure out the rest of my problem , will check the shifter bolt tonight does anyone know where to get new ones from if it is stuffed?

They are available genuine through Suzuki or from aftermarket suppliers like http://www.suzistore.com.au or go to your local bolt shop and buy a M8x1.25x 25 bolt and grind the end down so it fits in the slot in the shifter ball.
There are two different sizes in these so check which you have before purchasing.

Ok so i fixed my free wheeling hubs and while putting my jack back in its place under the bonnet i noticed that on of the brand new engine mounts which i replaced 3 weeks ago was broken i bought them as a pair off ebay i put my old one in which i was keeping as a spare and problem solved no more vibrations and the loud grinding noise was the fan hitting the shroud, thanks everyone for your help. But i now know not to buy parts of ebay they are just cheap crap ( but its not my fault i'm a tight arse zook driver)

Zook engine mounts break frequently, people have used VL commodore mounts with much success

VL engine mounts may fit and are certainly larger/stronger but they are also taller and if you ask around EG :STEKKY they aren't all that. Much fan on shroud grinding.

I have used Volvo and Land Rover engine mounts in Zook without dramas.. Anything about 1-3/4" tall with opposing studs will do.

I did have vl mounts in nthere previously but found them to be to hard and had costant engine vibrations through the whole car. was pretty lucky i had only driven the car for test runs after trying to remedy the vibrations and the fan would only hit when giving it a bit of right foot on take off.With every thing i have done over the last month trying to fix the problem my zook drives the best it ever has in the 2 years i have owned it.
