just get another one for the rear...lol

There would definitely be a difference in your turning circle under power, even if you cant feel it? which seems pretty strange i must say.

I have always left the front off until needed so you can give it a bootfull and not have the car do unexpected things or break....

I think what MrRocky was trying to say is that without Power Steering you would be better to put a lockrite up front instead of an ARB air locker ($300 VS $1300)

which is what makes no sense... ok im surprised that MrRocky doesnt find the steering lighter/better unlocked (could it just be the terrain? ie very loose dirt gravel?)
but surely the main (other than steering) point of having a front locker is to save the CV's?

and since MrRocky cant feel the difference locked or unlocked... perhaps we should all be running welded front centres...

i dont see how power steer is going to make the locker better over a lockrite either?

i thought the point of unlocking the front was to stop it understeering, as well as lightening the feel and the load on CVs

The whole thing is that the air lockers don't always unlock/lock when you want them too, I have seen this a few times, which is the main the reason you buy a $1600 locker.

Ive only ever seen them stay engaged while under high load or wound up from a turn.
straighten up and back off and out they come

Bit hard to do if you are half way through a turn and need to keep turning, or in a situation where reversing up isnt feasible.

They're more controllable than an auto locker though...

Maybe the new ARB design is more prone to "sticking" locked?

I wouldn't know mine are old, I bought them 2nd hand.

regardless they still shit on an auto or welded, even if they dont always turn off exactly when you'd like

*sigh*

ok i was twin locked with 6:5's and lockrights on 31" tyres
steering offroad was a bitch so i thought i'd get an airlocker
that way i could unlock the front at the flick of a switch and enjoy normal steering
after a few offroad runs in this configuration i have found the difference marginal even when off
it has become apparent that a much better setup would be to use the airlocker in the rear
so i can enjoy the peacefulness of a standard rear onroad and have it locked offroad
returning the front to an auto locker with the addition of power steering thus addressing my original issue
of improving the steering offroad and drawing the conclusion that there is no real advantage of an airlocker over an open center or lockright in relation to steering when offroad because sierra steering is gay and only able to be improved
via powersteering

im really on this one with you Everyone was like Get Air locker there better extra but as u found out id be more inclined to have spend money on rear air and P/s Front with Auto But thats just mean more then one way to skin a Rabbit and all do the same thing at end of day iv found anyways but im always on a budget atm

Get power steering if your struggling but it sounds as if you need to learn how to get the front to disengage. With it disingaged it should be as easy as having no locker at all.

A selectable locker in the front is ideal. 99% of comp trucks will have this setup as it is proven to be the best. In the rear not so important.

Try bouncing lightly on the accelerator while straightening the wheels up a bit to disengage. Have a play around until you figure it out. If its still not unlocking maybe you have issues somewhere with it?

Dont bother putting it in the rear. A lockright in the front is never going to be better.

^ Wot that guy said.

I normally find letting go of the steering wheel momentarily releases the locker.

I have never had a problem with an air locker not engaging though (unless there is another problem)

Most of the comp trucks over here use full carrier autolockers like the Detroits and Grizzlies, the 2 TT entrants are both running Eaton E-lockers, largely due to sponsorship, but both previously ran Detroits front and rear.

Fair enough. You speak for the minority.
