up until today my central locking worked fine in my 04 GV
i got out of the car and the button didn't work to lock the car.
i checked all the doors and it was when I opened and closed my rear door the key remote worked fine again.
i thought the issue was fixed. however!
the next time i put the key in the ignition it did not make the regular beeping sound to alert me my keys are in the ignition.
i started the car. turned it off. jumped out and again could not lock the door. i tried the rear door again. and again everything was back to normal.
only now the beeper that alerts me my lights have been left on is not working now either.
i have tried the spare key and the same thing happens so ive ruled out a key battery issue.
the car has not been in deep water so thats not the cause of the electrics going haywire.
this is all the information i have at present.

so my question... whats going on?

Thats a strange one! Funny you say hasnt been in water, A guy at work recently found out from an auto electrician that the car he bought late last year was most likely sold after being in the floods in queensland a year ago. Signs of water /mud ingress through all the wiring. And he has had electrical problems since having it.

Just a thought... Ours will not lock if a door isn't shut properly, so I assume the door switches provide the signal that the door is shut as they are not for the interior light (on our 05 XL-7 at least). Could the switch on the rear door be the problem?

well i found it particularly odd that the spark plug tubes were very rusty .... but nothing else was. who knows

my plug tubes are also rusty, i don't that that's a major concern.

so it could be the ignition telling the key the back door isnt shut or something like that??
or have i missed your point completely?

The door (any door) has to be shut properly to activate the door switch. ie if the door isn't shut properly, the door open warning light will show on the instrument panel. In this case your remote will not lock or unlock the doors, nothing happens when you click the remote. So the door switches are part of the circuit. Seeing it has worked after opening and re-closing the rear door, it might pay to check that door switch. May be nothing to do with your problem, but worth checking.
