My rebuild is getting worse, first the crank now the block has a crack on one of the journals up to the cylinder sleeve. Some say its alright but others dont. Can it be repaired or should I look for another block

If so, its toast. You COULD have it welded, but you will need to have the journal line bored afterwards, and that is EXPENSIVE!! Cheaper and easier to get another one mate.

Just go to the wreckers and pick up a swift/barina block. Should cost you less than $100

How far into your rebuild have you gone, have you bought pats yet, I have a couple being rebuilt at the moment, they will be for sale very soon.

Which model Barina/swift? I could only find 1.3's at the wreckers today

Yes its a G1.6B EFI engine ex LWB vitara.

Currently the block is shagged - cracked up between #1 and #2 cylinders all the way from bottom to top. Crank I believe is also shagged or too expensive to repair as the keyway needs doing and the mains and big ends.

Just get another G16B bottom end, and get your head checked for straightness etc. Its not financially viable to repair that crack.

Looks good.

But I reckon you are more likely to find a complete usable bottom end than a bare G16B block.

I may have lined up a block, I'll know next week, How much do you want for the crank?

Mine had cracked in a different spot, many see an external crack. Wonder why they crack in so many different spots??
